Berwick police arrest man wanted on seven fugitive warrants

A man who was running along U.S. 90 in Berwick was arrested on seven fugitive warrants from Morgan City, the Berwick Police Department said.
Berwick and Morgan City police also reported weekend arrests on heroin charges.
Berwick
Police Chief David Leonard Sr. reported these arrests:
—Kerwing B. Deleon, 22, Fourth Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:40 a.m. Sunday on seven fugitive warrants from the Morgan City Police Department.
At 1:49 a.m. Sunday, an officer observed a man running on the shoulder of U.S. 90 and stopped to check on him. He was identified as Deleon, and dispatch advised that he held seven active warrants through the Morgan City Police Department.
Deleon was placed under arrest and booked at the Berwick Police Department on the fugitive warrants then he was transferred to the Morgan City Police Department for processing.
—Melanie D. Rink, 48, Third Street, Berwick, was arrested at 2:40 a.m. Sunday on charges of mirrors required, no insurance, possession of heroin, possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
At 2:19 a.m. Sunday, an officer conducted a stop on a vehicle on River Road for a traffic violation. The driver was identified as Rink, and the vehicle she was driving did not have insurance on it.
Rink granted officers consent to search her vehicle and during the search, officers located crack cocaine, heroin and items of drug paraphernalia. The drugs were linked to Rink, and she was placed under arrest. Rink was booked into the Berwick Jail, where she remains with no bond set at this time.
—Anthony D. Gant, 40, O Street, Patterson, was arrested at 12:42 a.m. Monday on charges of resisting an officer by failure to identify and criminal trespassing, and on a 16th Judicial District Court warrant alleging failure to appear for trial on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal use of weapons, crimes of violence the presence of controlled dangerous substances, possession of heroin and possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I drug in excess of 28 grams.
At 11:27 p.m. Sunday, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Burchfield Lane. As the vehicle came to a stop, the driver and passenger both fled on foot.
Moments later, the Police Department received a call from Bayside Village of a man sitting on her porch. Officers arrived and located the subject, and he matched the description of the driver who fled from the traffic stop.
The individual refused to identify himself, and said he was at an acquaintance’s house. The caller said she does not know the man and said he did not have permission to be on her porch.
At that point, the man was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department. During the booking process, the man still refused to identify himself.
Through investigative means, officers were able to identify him as Gant, and he was found to have an active warrant through the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was booked into the Berwick Jail, where he remains with no bond set. The traffic stop investigation is ongoing.
Morgan City
Police Chief James F. Blair reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 164 calls for service over the last 96-hour reporting period and made these arrests:
-- Steven James Morris, 35, Egle Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Thursday on charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of a legend drug (Gabapentin and possession of drug paraphernalia, and on a hold for Probation & Parole.
--Lateachies Shavon Washington, 33, Railroad Avenue, Morgan City, was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana.
--Christopher Avery Lewis, 43, Gussie Street, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, was arrested at 9:04 p.m. Thursday on charges of possession of marijuana and driving under suspension, and as a fugitive from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.
--Robert David Jr., 57, Mike Drive, Patterson, was arrested at 1:26 a.m. Friday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense) and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
--Brad Joseph Derouen, 31, South Road, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:19 a.m. Friday on a charge of criminal trespassing.
--Meghan Rebekah Scarbrough, 34, Mercury Street, Pierre Part on a charge of aggravated assault and on a 6th Ward Morgan City Court warrant alleging two counts of failure to appear for arraignment, and as a fugitive from the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office.
--Elio Leonel Montoya-Miranda, 40, Airline Highway Baton Rouge, was arrested at 5:05 p.m. Saturday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense) and no driver’s license.
--Ashanta August, 54, Chennault Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:24 a.m. Sunday on charges of possession of marijuana, no driver’s license and improper lane usage.
--Byron Antonio Garcia Saaverda, 53, Duke Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:53 a.m. Sunday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense), improper lighting and no driver’s license.
Franklin
Police Chief Morris Beverly reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to 53 complaints over the holiday weekend and made these arrests:
—Milton Green, 35, Willow Street, Franklin, was arrested at 1:10 p.m. Thursday on the charges of remaining where forbidden and possession of drug paraphernalia. Green was booked processed, and held on a $2,500 bond.
—Emily Chauvin, 21, Oak Street, Franklin, was arrested, at 12:21 a.m. Friday on the charges of possession of marijuana and careless operation. Chauvin was booked, processed and released on a $2,250 bond.
—Tyreik Harrison, 20, St. Joseph Lane, Franklin, was arrested at 11:30 p.m. Friday on charges of illegal carrying of a firearm (three counts) counts and obstruction of justice. Harrison was booked, processed and held on a $7,500 bond.
—Jmichael Gray, 18, Pine Street, Franklin, was arrested at 11:30 p.m. Friday on two counts of illegal carrying of a firearm. Gray was booked, processed and released on a $2,000 bond.
—Cheyenne Randle, 19, Hickman Street, Delcambre, was arrested at 11:30 p.m. Friday on the charges of stop sign violation (nine counts), illegal carrying of a firearm (two counts), flight from an officer, reckless operation, general speed law and criminal damage to property. Randle was booked, processed and released on an $8,000 bond.
—Heather Theriot, 45, Robertson Street, Franklin, was arrested at 1:04 a.m. Sunday on the charge of obstruction of justice. Theriot was additionally arrested on a warrant for City Court of Morgan City for failure to appear for contempt of court. Theriot was booked, processed, and held on a $6,042.50 bond.
—Tyrone Freeman, 48, Franklin, was arrested at 1:02 a.m. Sunday, on a war-rant dated April 8 alleging simple burglary and theft by shoplifting. Freeman was additionally arrested on the charge of simple burglary. Freeman was booked, processed and held on a $28,500 bond.
Assumption
Sheriff Leland Falcon reported this arrest:
--Joseph Edward Ramagos III, 36, Henry Street, Patterson, was arrested April 13 on a charge of simple battery.
The charge arose from a watercraft burglary on or about April 19, 2021, near La. 662 in Bayou L’Ourse.
Detectives initiated an investigation that led investigators to St. Mary Parish. On or about May 7, 2021, Assumption Parish detectives received information from Morgan City police that Dakota Daigle, 27, Second Street, Morgan City, had implicated himself in the burglary in question.
Detectives interviewed Daigle on May 7, 2021, after which he was arrested arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of simple burglary.
This investigation continued and detectives were able to establish probable cause that Ramagos was a participant in the burglary. In April 2022, detectives secured a warrant for Ramagos’ arrest.
Ramagos was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center and released after posting a $50,000 bond.
Daigle pleaded guilty to simple burglary Nov. 8 and is serving a two-year sentence.
