Berwick, Assumption authorities make arrests on gun charges

Authorities in Berwick and Assumption Parish made arrests early this week on gun-related charges, including one involving a gun stolen from a Berwick home.

Berwick
Police Chief David Leonard reported this arrest:
—Zachary Mahfouz, 38, Second Street, Berwick, was arrested at 4:34 p.m. Tuesday on charge of theft of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
On Monday, the Berwick Police Department received a call about a firearm that was stolen from a residence. Officers responded and an investigation into the theft was conducted.
During the course of the investigation, Mahfouz was developed as a suspect. On Tuesday, officers located Mahfouz and made contact with him. While speaking with Mahfouz he admitted that he did in fact steal the firearm and was in possession of it.
Officers located and recovered the firearm, and it was learned that Mahfouz is a convicted felon prohibiting him from possessing a firearm. Mahfouz was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department where he was booked.

Morgan City
Police Chief James F. Blair reported that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Morgan City Police Department responded to 36 calls for service made these arrests beginning Tuesday:
—Anthony Terrell Dixon, 31, Nevada Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of direct contempt of court.
—Tyler Gros, 18, Clothilde Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 3 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of direct contempt of court.
—Betty Metrejean, 57, South Bay Road, Pierre Part, was arrested oat 7:20 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of hit-and-run driving.
—Juan Aguas-Bocanegra, 41, Iberia Street, Youngsville, was arrested at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense), reckless operation of a motor vehicle, no driver’s license, disobeying traffic controls, possession of alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle and improper lane usage.

St. Mary
Sheriff Blaise Smith advised that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff's Office responded to 24 complaints and made these arrests:
—David Wayne Mire, 45, Morgan City, was arrested at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday on three warrants for failure to appear on charges of criminal neglect of family; possession of cocaine; illegal use, consumption, possession or distribution of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of persons under 17; possession of methamphetamine; operating a vehicle while license is suspended/revoked/canceled; and improper driving left of center.
Bail was set at $65,581.21.
—Katrina Gail Courville, 39, Donner, was arrested at 1:53 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of for possession of methamphetamines and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail has not been set.
—Jared Lemaire, 33, Youngsville, was arrested at 1:53 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Lemaire was released on a summons to appear March 17.

Assumption
Sheriff Leland Falcon reported this arrest:
—Todd Christopher Doiron, 60, Belle River Road, Pierre Part, was arrested Monday on a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.
Deputies responded to a complaint about a disturbance between neighbors in Belle River. Doiron had allegedly brandished a firearm. Deputies spoke to all parties involved.
Deputies also retrieved video evidence of Doiron with a shotgun he retrieved from his home after the initial confrontation. Deputies recovered the firearm.
Todd Christopher Doiron was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center and released on a $10,000 bond.
