Auto theft report leads to arrest on firearm theft, burglary charges

Morgan City police, called to investigate a stolen vehicle, arrested a Susan Drive man on burglary and firearm theft charges Tuesday.

Fredrick Calloway, 18, Susan Drive, was arrested at 12:42 p.m. Tuesday on charges of unauthorized entry into a place of business, theft of a firearm, theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of unauthorized use of a movable and two counts of simple burglary.

On Tuesday, officers with the Morgan City Police Department responded to the area of Victor II Boulevard regarding a vehicle that had been stolen from a local hotel in the area of la. 182. Officers arrived and identified Calloway as the individual who had taken the vehicle, which was located by the victim on Victor II, the Police Department said. Information was received that Calloway fled the area on foot.

Officers began canvassing the area and located Calloway behind businesses on David Drive. He fled on foot and was apprehended a short time later and taken into custody. Calloway also held several active arrest warrants in connection to multiple investigations being conducted by the Morgan City Police Department Detectives Division, the Police Department said.

According to police:

--The warrants for unauthorized use of a movable and unauthorized entry into a place of business stem from an investigation that began Sept. 10, when Calloway allegedly entered the business in the area of Patton Street and took a vehicle on multiple occasions. The vehicles were later returned. When the victim had learned what had taken place they contacted police.

--The warrant for theft of a firearm stems from an investigation conducted by detectives that began Sept. 30 in the area of Bush Street, where Calloway allegedly took a firearm from the residence.

The warrants for simple burglary stem from an investigation Tuesday at a business on L. 70. Calloway allegedly entered two buildings on the property and committed a theft. Arrest warrants were obtained for Calloway's arrest in each investigation.

Calloway was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail. where he was booked and processed.
