Authorities respond to report of fuel spill on Bayou Teche
Authorities responded to a report of a fuel spill Saturday morning on Bayou Teche in the Centerville area and located a light sheen on the water that later dissipated, a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office news release said. The source of the sheen hasn’t been identified.
The sheriff’s office marine section responded at 10:47 a.m. Saturday to a report of a fuel spill in Bayou Teche in the Centerville area. On arrival, the marine section located a sheen on the water and identified the affected area was about a mile long and across the bayou in areas affected. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified and also responded.
Officials advised the public to avoid that area of Bayou Teche after the report of a spill.
The sheen was a light sheen that dissipated over time, and the source of the sheen wasn’t identified. The scene was cleared at 2:47 p.m. Saturday and the bayou reopened to traffic.
