Arrests made in marijuana, prescription drug cases

(Editor's note: The charges listed here and the narratives that go with them are provided by the police agencies that made the arrests. Guilt or innocence has not been determined in court.)

Local law enforcement agencies made a dozen arrests on drug charges over the weekend, with marijuana and prescription drugs figuring prominently in those cases.

Berwick
Police Chief David Leonard reported these arrests:
—Kacy Sons, 36, First Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 11:24 a.m. Friday on warrants for possession of Schedule IV drugs, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane usage.
On Friday, Sons was located in Morgan City and placed under arrest by the Morgan City Police Department. Sons was transported to the Berwick Police Department, where she was booked on active warrants for the Berwick Police Department.
—Richard Boone, 26, El Paso, Texas, was arrested at 2:55 p.m. Saturday on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Saturday, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a window tint violation. During the course of the stop, marijuana and items of drug paraphernalia were located inside the vehicle.
In the course of the investigation, Boone arrived on the scene of the traffic stop and admitted that the items belonged to him. Boone was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department where he was booked.
—Kayla Morin, 31, Friendship Alley, Amelia, was arrested at 9:57 p.m. Sunday on charges of possession of Xanax, possession of marijuana and introduction of contraband into a penal facility.
About 9:37 p.m. Sunday, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle for speeding. During the course of the stop, Morin was identified as a passenger inside the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle was conducted after officers detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside. During this time, officers located several Xanax pills, which Morin did not have a prescription for, in her purse.
Morin was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department. Upon arrival, Morin was found to have a bag of marijuana concealed on her person. Morin was booked.
—Gregory Payne, 45, Oregon Street, Berwick, was arrested at 4:53 p.m. Saturday on charges of loud music and driving under suspension.
About 4:40 p.m. Saturday, officers with the Berwick Police Department observed a vehicle traveling on La. 182, and loud music could be heard coming from the vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and officers made contact with Payne.
During the course of the traffic stop a computer check showed that Payne’s driver’s license was suspended. Payne was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department, where he was booked. 
—Chris Toups, 41, First Street, Berwick, was arrested at 3:51 p.m. Sunday on a charge of disturbing the peace (second offense).
On Sunday, the Berwick Police Department received a call about Toups causing a disturbance at a residence on First Street. Officers arrived and made contact with Toups and warned him that if officers had to return for him causing a disturbance, he would be subject to arrest.
Later that afternoon, the Berwick Police Department received another call stating Toups was back at the residence causing another disturbance. Officers arrived for the second time, and Toups was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department.

St. Mary
Sheriff Blaise Smith advised that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 104 complaints and made these arrests:
—Dominic Campbell, 43, Houma, was arrested at 10:27 p.m. Friday on charges of improper lane usage, distribution of Schedule II drugs, possession with intent to distribute Schedule II drugs, obstruction of justice (tampering) and introduction of contraband into a penal institution.
Campbell was released on a $2,500 bond.
—Lonny Ray Baker Sr., 55, Franklin, was arrested at 10:27 p.m. Friday on charges of possession of Schedule II drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
Baker also held a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of theft. Bail has not been set.
—Devin Marcel Landry, 27, Charenton, was arrested at 8:45 a.m. Saturday on charges of possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute Schedule IV drugs and possession of Schedule IV drugs. Landry was released on an $8,000 bond.
—Derick Damond Jackson, 35, Jeanerette, was arrested at 11:17 a.m. Saturday on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Jackson was released on a summons to appear July 22.
—Zendia Folse, 38, Lockport, was arrested at 11:18 a.m. Friday by the Narcotics Section on charges of improper lane usage, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, prohibited acts (drug paraphernalia) and transactions involving proceeds from controlled dangerous substance activity.
Bail has not been set.
—Andrew Martin, 29, Franklin, was arrested at 3:40 p.m. Saturday on charges of speeding, driving under suspension, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Martin was released on a summons to appear July 22.
—Randolph Anthony Joseph, 29, Franklin, was arrested at 1:19 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of parole violation. Joseph is being held for another agency.  
—Brandon Michael McClendon, 34, Patterson, was arrested at 1:26 a.m. Saturday on a charge of possession of stolen things. No bail has been set.
—Jorge Quezada-Gonzales, 57, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:46 p.m. Saturday on charges of speeding in a construction zone and driving under suspension. Quezada was released on a summons to appear July 22.
—Derek Moses Gaskins, 40, Amelia, was arrested at 10:13 a.m. Sunday on charges of mufflers, driving under suspension and obstruction of justice (tampering). Bail was set at $12,250.
—Toi Terry, 29, Thibodaux, was arrested at 8:36 p.m. Sunday on a charge of reckless operation (no accident). Terry was released on a summons to appear July 22.

Morgan City
Police Chief James F. Blair reported that over the last 72-hour period, the Morgan City Police Department responded to 100 calls for service and made this arrest:
—Robert Joseph Gussman Jr., 48, Aucoin Street, Morgan City, was arrested on at 4:15 p.m. Friday on a charge of entry on or remaining in places or on land after forbidden.
Franklin
Police Chief Morris Beverly said the Franklin Police Department responded to 33 complaints over the past weekend and made these arrests:
—Lynn Lovell, 48, Kirk Street, Franklin, was arrested at 3:11 p.m. Friday on a warrant dated April 18 for three counts of battery of a dating partner and simple assault. Lovell was additionally arrested on the charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, and a warrant for parole violation. Lovell was booked, processed and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.
—Chris Baptiste, 53, Hamilton Street, Franklin, was arrested at 7:41 a.m. Friday on a warrant for the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office for failure to register as a sex offender. Baptiste was booked, processed and held with no bond set.

St. Martin
Sheriff Becket Breaux reported these arrests:
—Melodie Vormann, 25, Eastview Drive, Canyon Lake, Texas, was arrested Saturday by the Louisiana State Police on a charge of reckless operation of a vehicle, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, simple possession of marijuana, possession of Schedule II drugs, prohibited acts (drug paraphernalia), and possession of a firearm while committing or attempting a crime.
—Trellis Etienne, 23, Odile Street, Lafayette, was arrested Friday on charges of illegal possession of stolen things, simple possession of marijuana and violation of the controlled dangerous substance laws.
—Bryan Simar, 35, Nassans Road, St. Martinville, was arrested Friday on warrants for failure to appear on charges of domestic abuse aggravated assault; manufacture, distribution or possession with intent to distribute Schedule II drugs; operating a vehicle with a suspended license; and aggravated assault.
—Joshua Bourque, 30, Landry Drive, Baker, was arrested Friday on a charge of theft ($1-$999).
—Torraino Johnson, 36, Casgilione Street, New Orleans, was arrested Friday on a hold for the U.S. Marshals Service.
—Gaige Thibodeaux, 20, Roberts Street, Breaux Bridge, was arrested Sunday by the Breaux Bridge Police Department on a charge of simple domestic abuse battery.

Assumption
Sheriff Leland Falcon reported this arrest:
—Victoria Arnold, 36, of La. 1007, Napoleonville, was arrested Saturday on charges of felony theft and felony identity theft.
The arrest related to n the recent theft of funds from a private individual.
On Wednesday, uniformed patrol deputies responded to a complaint near Napoleonville into the theft of funds from a personal bank account. Deputies interviewed the victim, who indicated that he had been in a relationship with Arnold. That relationship ended several days ago.
The victim, at some point, discovered that there were nine transactions on his bank account through a cash app, and a total of $3,900 was stolen from that account.
Deputies launched an investigation and determined that there indeed had been nine transactions of withdrawing funds from the account between March12 and March 17.
Deputies were able to identify Arnold as the suspect resulting in multiple warrants being issued for her arrest.
Arnold was arrested on Saturday in Ascension Parish. The suspect was transferred and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center and released on a $25,000 commercial bond.
