Area deputies make multiple drug arrests

Sheriff’s offices across the region all reported drug-related arrests early this week, including one after a St. Mary traffic stop that netted three kinds of narcotics and two Assumption cases involving Suboxone.
St. Mary
Sheriff Blaise Smith advised that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 22 complaints and made these arrests:
—Kevin J. Kolwe, 22, Lafayette, was arrested at 1:04 a.m. Wednesday by the Narcotics Section on charges of driving left of center, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute THC wax, possession of mushrooms and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A detective with the SMPSO Narcotics Section was contacted by a patrol deputy in reference to a K9 that had detected narcotics on a traffic stop. The detective traveled to the location and made contact with the K9 deputy to assist.
The K9 deputy advised that he had conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on U.S. 90 in the Calumet area due to the vehicle traveling in the left lane but not actively passing anyone. The deputy had made contact with the driver, identified as Kolwe. During the stop, K9 Jace was deployed to conduct an open-air sniff of the outside of the vehicle and subsequently showed a positive odor response.
Drug paraphernalia was located in the vehicle as well as narcotics in amounts consistent with dealer amounts. Kolwe was arrested and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail has been set.
—Shawn Edward McCauley, 43, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:14 p.m. Tuesday on charges of bicycle equipment required for night operation, possession of methamphetamines, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. No bail has been set.
—Akeem Wiggins, 18, Franklin, was arrested at 2:37 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of theft. Wiggins was released on a summons to appear June 28.
Assumption
Sheriff Leland Falcon reported these arrests:
—Mark Andrew Rentrop, 28, La. 663, Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested Monday on charges of possession of Suboxone, failure to dim headlights and flight from an officer.
—Travis Joseph Skeen, 31, Aristle Road, Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested Monday on a charge of possession of marijuana, on a St. Mary warrant for failure to appear (drug charges) and on an Assumption warrant for simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling.
The arrests arose from a traffic stop Monday night near Amelia.
A uniformed patrol officer observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation. The vehicle fled but was eventually stopped near Amelia.
The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Rentrop, as well as one passenger, identified as Skeen.
The deputy conducted a pat down search of the driver and recovered a quantity of Suboxone, a medication used to treat opiate addiction. The deputy also seized marijuana, which was attributed to Skeen.
It was further determined that Skeen was wanted on failure to appear charges in St. Mary Parish for multiple felony drug charges.
The burglary charge against Skeen stems from a burglary on or about Oct. 14, when detectives commenced an investigation relative to the burglary of a shed in Bayou L’Ourse.
Detectives learned that Skeen had been trying to sell stolen outboard motors linked to the burglary case.
As a result of this investigation, detectives obtained felony warrants for Skeen’s arrest.
Rentrop was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center with a bond set at $45,000.
Skeen remains incarcerated with a bond set at $15,000.
—Gregory J. Gros, 58, Levee Highway, Pierre Part, was arrested Monday on charges of possession of Suboxone, public intimidation, driving under suspension and illegal window tint.
The charges arose out of a Monday afternoon traffic stop in Pierre Part.
An I.C.E. assigned unit working the Pierre Part area observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop of the vehicle. The driver continued until he arrived at his residence.
The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Gros.
During the investigative stop, it was determined that Gros was driving under a suspended license.
At some point, Gregory J. Gros consented to a search of his vehicle. During the search process, a quantity of Suboxone was recovered. Gros was arrested.
Upon arrival at the detention center, Gros made a number of threats directed towards deputies. Gros was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of with a bond set at $100,000.
Franklin
Police Chief Morris Beverly said the Franklin Police Department responded to eight complaints in a 24-hour period and made these arrests:
—Akeem Wiggins, 18, of Mitchell Lane, Franklin, was arrested at 1:29 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant dated Feb. 17 for simple battery. Wiggins was booked, processed and released on a $2,500 bond.
—Keith Robinson, 41, of Franklin, was arrested at 1:22 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office on a charge of simple cruelty to animals. Robinson was booked, processed and held on a $1,000 bond.
St. Martin
Sheriff Becket Breaux reported these arrests:
—Kevin Cazelot, 54, Riverwoods Street, Lafayette, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of failure to appear (domestic abuse battery-strangulation).
—Rodney Celestine, 33, West Hyacinth Street, St. Martinville, was arrested Tuesday by the St. Martinville Police Department on charges of domestic abuse battery and illegal use of a weapon.
—Jalaun Gardner, 22, Bridge Street, St. Martinville, was arrested Tuesday by the Breaux Bridge Police Department on charges of aggravated assault on a dating partner, battery of a dating partner, aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal use of a weapon, cruelty to animals, simple assault and aggravated assault with a firearm.
—Kristi Polozola, 32, Poitier Road, Breaux Bridge, was arrested Tuesday on charges of manufacture, distribution or possession with intent to distribute Schedule II narcotics; possession of Schedule III narcotics (stimulants); possession of Schedule IV narcotics; distribution of drug paraphernalia; and theft valued at $1-$999.
—Lauren Baker, 27, Kallie Lane, Breaux Bridge, was arrested Monday on a hold for the U.S. Marshals Service.
—Joseph Jordan, 33, Agnes Drive, Breaux Bridge, was arrested Monday on a warrant for failure to appear (domestic abuse/child endangerment).
—Dartamian Landry, 19, Wallsville Road, Houston, was arrested Monday on charges of simple burglary (movable or immovable), illegal possession of stolen things, assault with a motor vehicle on a peace officer, attempted first-degree murder, vehicle license required, aggravated flight from an officer, driver must be licensed, and insurance required on vehicle.
—Jamal Landry, 24, Hope Street, Breaux Bridge, was arrested Monday on a warrant for failure to appear (possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of a firearm in committing or attempting a crime; manufacture or distribution of Schedule IV narcotics; possession with intent to distribute Schedule I narcotics; and possession of Schedule V narcotics).
