Amelia woman dies in Acadia crash

A two-vehicle crash Friday in Acadia Parish killed two people, one from Henderson and one from Amelia.
Hoa Minh Le, 79, of Henderson, and Huynh Thi Tran, 72, of Amelia, were killed. Le was the driver, and Tran was the passenger in the same vehicle.
Louisiana State Police were notified just after 6 p.m. of the accident on Interstate 10 east of Jennings
According to the preliminary investigation, a Ram pickup driven by Luis Martinez Pedro, 45, of Miami, was westbound on I-10 when his car experienced a tire malfunction, state police said in a release.
The Ram subsequently entered the median and continued westbound, entering a portion of the eastbound lane.
Le was eastbound on Interstate 10 in a Nissan Frontier at the time, and he and Pedro tried to avoid each other. However, they ended up in the roadway’s median where the Ram hit the Nissan head-on.
Le and Tran, who were properly restrained, suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office.
Pedro, who also was properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Routine toxicology samples were obtained from the drivers for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
