Amelia-area stop results in 2 arrests, one on gun charge
An Amelia-area traffic stop Friday resulted in two arrests, one on a felony weapons charge, Assumption Sheriff Leland Falcon reported.
David William Clavier Jr., 42, Mary Street, Gibson, was arrested on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Daniel Michael Marse, 34, Klondyke Road, Bourg, was arrested on a New Orleans fugitive warrant alleging aggravated domestic abuse battery.
According to the Assumption Sheriff's Office account:
A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop of that vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver, Marse, and conducted an interview.
'The deputy noted a large-caliber handgun between the seats. The deputy collected the handgun in the interest of safety.
The deputy conducted a computer inquiry on the driver as well as the lone passenger, identified as Clavier.
The Communications Division confirmed the existence of a felony warrant for Marse, who was wanted by the New Orleans Police Department on a fugitive warrant alleging aggravated domestic battery. It was also confirmed that Clavier was a convicted felon. Clavier was convicted of domestic abuse battery in Terrebonne Parish and was the subject of a probation violation.
Both men were arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center. Marse was transferred to the New Orleans Police Department.
Clavier was released on bond.
