3 arrested on drug charges; 81-year-old arrested in domestic violence case

Morgan City and St. Mary Parish authorities reported three arrests on drug charges Monday and early Tuesday.

In Assumption Parish, deputies arrested an 81-year-old Bayou L’Ourse man on a domestic battery charge.

Morgan City

Interim Police Chief Mark E. Griffin Jr. reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 45 calls for service over the last 24-hour reporting period and made these arrests:

—Louis Joseph Morgan, 39, Egle Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of possession of methamphetamine.

—Joey Anthony Choplin, 42, La. 1000, Belle Rose, was arrested at 4:11 p.m. Monday on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of Suboxone and possession of drug paraphernalia, and as a fugitive from the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office.

—Kerry Martin, 26, Garber Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 11:44 p.m. Monday on charges of failure to pay fine and four counts of failure to appear for arraignment (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 40 complaints and made these arrests:

--Jarvis Darrell Granger, 36, Morgan City, was arrested at 4:23 a.m. Tuesday on charges of resisting an officer, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of MDMA, possession of methamphetamine, possession of crack cocaine and possession with intent to distribute a Schedule IV drug.

Bail has not been set.

—Eric Lawrence Peltier, 42, Franklin, was arrested at 11:55 a.m. Monday on charges of burglary from a vehicle and possession of stolen property. Bail has not been set.

—-Brian Joseph Barrilleaux, 37, Berwick, was arrested at 3:25 p.m. Monday on two warrants alleging failure to appear on the charges of possession of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoids and simple battery. Bail has not been set.

—Gregory Joseph Payne, 19, Patterson, was arrested at 7:27 p.m. Monday charges of resisting an officer by flight, failure to maintain control and disobeying stop sign. Payne was released on a $2,250 bond.

Assumption

Sheriff Leland Falcon reported this arrest:

—Dewey J. Landry, 81, La. 662, Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested Monday on a charge of domestic abuse battery involving strangulation.
On Monday, deputies responded to a complaint at a Morgan City health care facility in reference to an elderly female being examined for domestic related injuries.

Detectives initiated an investigation and interviewed the victim as well as the accused, Landry.

Detectives determined that the alleged abuse was over a period of time. Investigators obtained information consistent with domestic abuse battery involving strangulation.

Landry was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

Franklin

Police Chief Morris Beverly reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to 11 complaints over the last 24-hour reporting period and made this arrest:

—Laikee Thomas, 46, Carl C. Foulcard Drive, Franklin, was arrested at 9:26 p.m. Monday on a charge of driving under suspension. Thomas was booked, processed and released to appear in 3rd Ward City Court.
