Fewer new COVID cases but another death in St. Mary

The number of new COVID-19 cases in St. Mary continues to show slow growth, whether because the fourth surge is waning or testing has been interrupted by Hurricane Ida and its aftermath.

Another COVID-related death was reported for the Friday-Tuesday period at midday Tuesday by the Louisiana Office of Public Health.

The death reported Tuesday is the 192nd COVID fatality in St. Mary since April 2020 and the 45th since Aug. 1.

Seventy-eight new COVID cases were reported for the same days, raising St. Mary's case count to 7,988.

Statewide, the number of COVID patients in Louisiana fell by 251 over the holiday weekend to 2,003.

The OPH reported 5,532 new Louisiana cases since Friday along with 72 deaths.
