18 new confirmed COVID cases in Assumption, St. Mary

St. Mary has 13 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and Assumption has five for the 24 hours ending at midday Monday, according to the Louisiana Office of Public Health.

St. Martin's case count was adjusted downward by 10 for a pandemic total of 2,541. Another 39 positives resulted from the less sensitive antigen tests and are considered probable.

Thirteen new confirmed cases detected by PCR tests were reported for St. Mary, where the pandemic case count is now 2,226. Another 89 cases are listed as probable.

Assumption's five new confirmed cases raise its case count to 918 with another 66 probable cases.

No new fatalities were reported locally, so the death tolls remain at 89 with five deaths listed as probable in St. Mary; 65 with five probables in St. Martin; and 24 with one probable in Assumption.

Statewide, the number of COVID-positive people in hospitals topped 1,000 and has doubled in a month.

--971 new confirmed cases raise the statewide pandemic total to 211,094 with another 10,066 probable.

--24 newly reported fatalities raise the statewide toll to 6,039 with 245 deaths listed as probably COVID-19-related.

--45 more COVID-positive people are hospitalized, raising that total to 1,012.

--9 more people are on ventilators for a total of 114.
