Morgan City, Central Catholic advance in softball playoffs

Both Morgan City teams advanced in the LHSAA high school softball playoffs with wins in Friday bi-district games.

In Non-Select Division II, 18th-seeded Morgan City upset No. 15 Loranger 7-6. Morgan City will play at No. 2 Lutcher at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the regionals.

And in Select Division IV, 15th-seeded Central Catholic downed No. 18 Slaughter Community College 9-3. Central Catholic will play No. 2 Catholic-Pointe Coupee at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Hornet Park.

Two other St. Mary teams were eliminated in bi-district play Friday.

No. 10 Central Private beat No. 23 Hanson Memorial 15-5. Central Private will play at No. 6 St. Mary on Tuesday.

In Non-Selection Division III, No. 12 Mamou defeated No. 21 Berwick 8-1. Mamou will play at No. 5 Jena on Tuesday.
