Central Catholic, Patterson drop football playoff games
Both east St. Mary teams that qualified for the state football playoffs fell out of contention in games Friday.
In Morgan City, Central Catholic lost a 41-36 decision to Ascension Catholic in the Division IV first round. Ascension Catholic goes on to play top-seeded Ouachita Christian on Nov. 19.
In Patterson, the Lumberjacks took it on the chin from Donaldsonville 48-14 in Class 3A. Donaldsonville goes on to play fifth-seeded Church Point.
Franklin was the only St. Mary winner in the playoff first round, beating D'Arbonne Woods 54-7 in Class 2A. Franklin returns to action next week at second-seeded and undefeated Loreauville, which knocked off West St. Mary 49-0 Friday.
In Class 1A, White Castle beat Centerville 49-8. White Castle moves on to play LaSalle.
And in Division IV, second-seeded Southern Lab hammered Hanson Memorial 56-0. Southern Lab will play at Metairie Park Country Day next week.
