Woman arrested in fatal Bayou Vista fire

A Morgan City woman has been arrested on negligent arson and negligent homicide charges in the Aug. 5 fire that killed two people and injured another in Bayou Vista.

Haley R. Ramo, 22, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:05 a.m. Monday on a warrant alleging negligent arson and negligent homicide, the St. Mary Sheriff's Office said.
.
Deputies were sent to the mobile home fire about 8 a.m. Aug. 5 in the 100 block of Jupiter Street. An injured person was found outside the mobile home, apparently hurt in an attempt to get people out. He was taken by Acadian AirMed to an area hospital.

Inside, deputies and firefighters found two bodies later identified as the people who live in the mobile home. Two dogs were also killed in the blaze.

Sheriff’s detectives and the State Fire Marshal’s Office began an investigation that included several interviews, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A woman, identified as Haley Ramo, had been inside the structure and was interviewed by detectives. As the joint investigation progressed, evidence was discovered that led to the acquisition of a warrant by the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office charging Ramo with negligent arson and negligent homicide.
.
On Monday, detectives transported her to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail has not been set at this time.

The Bayou Vista Volunteer Fire Department, Morgan City Fire Department, Berwick Volunteer Fire Department, Patterson Volunteer Fire Department, Amelia Volunteer Fire Department, and Acadian Ambulance also responded to the scene.

The Sheriff's Office Investigations Division said it wants to recognize the State Fire Marshal's Office for its investigative work and cooperation in this incident.
