Weapon charges result from Wednesday arrests

Morgan City police and St. Mary deputies made arrests on weapons charges Wednesday.

Morgan City

Chief Chad M. Adams reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 32 calls over the last 24-hour reporting period and made these arrests:

--Blake Joseph Wiggins, 29 Tupelo Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday on a charge of illegal carrying of a weapon.

--Jamie Truman Scarbrough Jr., 34, La. 663, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:44 p.m. Wednesday on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Gabapentin, and two counts of failure to appear for arraignment (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

--Alvin Robinson Jr., 49, Clothilde Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:43 p.m. Wednesday on charges of possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to appear for a contempt hearing (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

Berwick

Chief David S. Leonard reported these arrests:

--Larry Barrilleaux, 71, Berwick was arrested at 6:55 p.m. on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense, refusal) and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

About 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, a vehicle was observed traveling on Sixth Street in a reckless manner. At one point, the vehicle was traveling in the opposite lane of travel nearly causing several vehicle crashes.

A traffic stop was conducted, and officers made contact with Barrilleaux. Officers observed signs of impairment. Standard field sobriety tests were conducted, and Barrilleaux performed poorly.

He was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department, where he refused to submit a breath sample. A warrant was obtained, and samples of his blood were collected. Barrilleaux was then booked.

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to 39 complaints and made these arrests:

--Connor James Wells, 23, Morgan City, was arrested at 11:12 a.m. on charges of illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, and on two warrants for failure to appear on the charge of simple animal abuse. Bail has not been set at this time.

--Phi Hoang Lam Duval, 39, Morgan City, was arrested on December at 1:09 a.m. Thursday on charges of disturbing the peace (intoxicated), possession of methamphetamines, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple assault and entry on premises after being forbidden. Bail has not been set at this time.
