Two youths arrested in Morgan City shooting

Two people, a 16-year-old accused in a July 26 shooting and the 20-year-old accused of telling the teenager to fire, have been arrested on attempted murder charges in the shooting in the Apple Street area of Morgan City, the Police Department said.

Rashon Anthony Jones, 20, Bush Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:10 a.m. Thursday on charges of attempted second-degree murder, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and illegal transfer of a firearm to a prohibited person.

The 16-year-old juvenile male was arrested at 5:43 p.m. Wednesday on charges of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal used of dangerous instrumentalities, illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile and obstruction of justice.

On July 26, Morgan City police answered the report of the Apple Street-area shooting, which damaged a home. Officers found the firearm used in the shooting behind an abandoned house. The investigation was turned over to the Morgan City Police Department Detectives Division, who identified the the victim, the Police Department said.

The investigation developed a juvenile male as a suspect in the shooting. Evidence was uncovered linking the juvenile as being the shooter in the investigation. Warrants were prepared for the juvenile's arrest, police said.

Jones was developed as a second suspect in the investigation. According to reports, evidence was uncovered that Jones had allegedly told the juvenile suspect to shoot the victim. Jones then allegedly provided the juvenile with a firearm to carry out the crime, police said.

The juvenile male was booked on the active arrest warrants and transferred to an out-of-area juvenile detention center pending juvenile court proceedings.

Warrants were prepared for Jones' arrest for his involvement. Information was developed that Jones was in the Larose area.
Investigators with the Morgan City Police Department and Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office located Jones in the early morning hours Thursday. He was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center.

Jones was later transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated on the active arrest warrants. Bail was set at $610,000.
