Morgan City and Assumption Parish authorities made separate arrests Tuesday on charges of weapon possession by a convicted felon.

Morgan City

Chief Chad M. Adams reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 39 calls for service over the last 24-hour reporting period and made these arrests:

--Rip Davis Verdin Jr., 48, Sixth Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:24 p.m. Tuesday on two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

--Tina Ware, 41, Sixth Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:51 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of simple burglary and possession of stolen things.

Assumption

Sheriff Leland Falcon reported this arrest:

--Javonne Wanya Amacker, 28, Joaquin Drive, Houma, was arrested Tuesday on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and illegal window tint.

A uniformed patrol deputy observed a westbound vehicle with an equipment violation on U.S. 90 near Bayou L'Ourse. During a traffic stop, the deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Amacker, and engaged the violator in an interview.

At some point, the deputy summoned a K-9 to the scene of the stop. The K-9 conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle, which led to Amacker acknowledging the presence of a large-caliber handgun in the vehicle. The firearm was seized.

Deputies determined that Amacker was a prior convicted felon.

Amacker was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
