Three drug arrests in Morgan City; men detained on attempted murder charges in Baldwin, Assumption

Morgan City police reported three arrests on drug charges Monday and Tuesday, while authorities in Baldwin and Assumption Parish made arrests on attempted murder charges after shootings.

Morgan City

Chief Chad M. Adams reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 46 calls for service over the last 24-hour reporting period and made these arrests:

--Bethany Rose White, 27, Aucoin Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:16 a.m. Tuesday on three counts of failure to pay fine (6th ward Morgan City Court) and five counts of failure to appear for trial (16th Judicial District Court).

--Leonard Allen, 57, La. 182, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:03 p.m. Tuesday on charges of possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, driving under suspension and improper lighting.

--Thurman A. James, 42, Deerbrooke Park Boulevard, Humble, Texas, was arrested at 9:06 p.m. Tuesday on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of a legend drug (bupropion) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

--Monique Nichole Landry, 28, Julia Street, New Iberia, was arrested at 11:07 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of failure to appear for arraignment (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

--Christofer Paredes, 22, Lake Palourde Road, Amelia, was arrested at 7:41 p.m. Monday on a charge of possession of marijuana.

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 29 complaints and made this arrest:

--Sean Mitchell Holloway, 36, St. Martinville, was arrested at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday on an MCPD warrant alleging failure to appear on the charge of speeding. Holloway is being held for another agency.

Franklin

Chief Cedric Handy reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to seven complaints over the last 24-hour reporting period and made this arrest:

--Lacy Foco, 34, Carl C. Foulcard Drive, Franklin, was arrested at 4:13 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for Jeanerette City Court alleging failure to appear on charges of speeding, driving under suspension, no insurance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Foco was booked, processed and transported to Jeanerette Police Department.

Baldwin

Chief Anthony Gibson reported this arrest:

--Devon Marks 27, Baldwin, was arrested Tuesday on charges of attempted second-degree murder, illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and illegal carrying of a weapon.

The arrest resulted from a shooting that happened Sunday in the Bollard Street area. After investigating and speaking with community members, officers were able to secure an arrest warrant.

Marks was transported to St Mary Parish LEC on a $600,000 Bond.

Gibson thanked his officers along with the Jeanerette and Franklin police departments and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office for locating Marks.

Assumption

Sheriff Leland Falcon reported this arrest:

--Omerion Rashad Watts, 19, Windy Oaks Drive, Aransas Pass, Texas, was arrested Monday on an attempted second-degree murder charge.

The arrest followed a shooting near Paincourtville on Monday afternoon.

Deputies responded to the 6000 block of Grant Road. Deputies located one individual who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The individual was transferred to a health care facility for treatment.

Detectives determined that the victim and the suspect, now identified as Watts, were engaged in a conversation. Watts fired multiple shots, striking the victim. Detectives continue to investigate events leading up to the shooting.

Approximately one hour later, Watts was located in a nearby structure and arrested.

Watts was also wanted on a fugitive warrant from the Gonzales Police Department alleging domestic abuse battery (child endangerment).

He was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center with bond set at $1 million.

The victim continues to recover from his injuries.
