Theft, domestic abuse, damage to property among charges in this week's arrests

Local police agencies reported arrests this week on charges that include theft, domestic battery by strangulation and damage to property.

Morgan City

Chief Chad M. Adams reports that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 105 calls for service over the last 48-hour reporting period and made these arrests:

--Jay’veon Jamal Grogan, 19, La. 182, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:26 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of theft (under $1,000).

--William A. Patterson Jr., 56, Oakland Road, Lakeland, was arrested at 9:44 p.m. Tuesday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense) and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

--Jaiveianna Jones, 26, Lawrence Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:52 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of failure to appear for arraignment (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

--Jim James Businelle, 64, Louisa Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:16 p.m. Monday on a charge of failure to appear for arraignment (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

--Jacob Fabian Gil, 37, Kimberly Drive, Morgan City, was arrested at 3:32 p.m. Monday on a charge of criminal damage to property.

--Joseph Anthony Acosta, 31, Grove Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:31 p.m. Monday as a fugitive from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office.

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 26 complaints and made these arrests:

--Bryson Shane Gaspard, 23, Baldwin, was arrested at 6:43 p.m. Monday on a charge of domestic abuse battery (strangulation). Bail has not been set at this time.

--David Paul Martin, 42, Bourg, was arrested at 10:40 a.m. Monday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on charges of possession of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoids with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, and operating a vehicle with improper taillights. Bail has not been set at this time.

Franklin

Chief Cedric Handy reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to 20 complaints over the last 48-hour reporting period and made these arrests:

--Randolph Joseph, 31, Third Street, Franklin, was arrested at 6:36 a.m. Tuesday on charges of disturbing the peace, remaining where forbidden and resisting an officer with force. Joseph was booked, processed and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.

--Joseph Thomas, 61, Myra Street, Franklin, was arrested at 5:4 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for 3rd Ward City Court alleging failure to appear on charges of disturbing the peace (intoxicated) and simple criminal damage to property. Thomas was additionally arrested on charges of possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Thomas was booked, processed and held with no bond set at the time of press release.

--Jason Czechosolvak, 47, Stonewood Drive, Baton Rouge, was arrested at 5:38 p.m. Monday on a warrant dated June 14, 2016, alleging theft of a motor vehicle. Czechosolvak was booked, processed and held with no bond set at time of press release.

--Shontranice McDaniel, 28, Robertson Street, Franklin, was arrested at 5:50 p.m. Monday on a charge of disturbing the peace (fighting). McDaniel was booked, processed and released on a $250 bond.

--Joseph Demarco, 58, Genevieve Street, Franklin, was arrested at 10:24 p.m. Monday on a warrant for City Court of Morgan City alleging failure to appear on the charge of speeding. Demarco was booked, processed and transported to Morgan City Police Department.

Assumption

Sheriff Leland Falcon reported these arrests:

--Christopher Dwaine Woods, 31, 11th Street, Morgan City, was booked Monday on charges of failure to appear on charges of obstruction of justice; production, manufacture or possession of a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance; and possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance.

Woods was previously arrested in Assumption Parish and was ordered to appear in court on Feb. 27 and failed to do so. As a result, warrants were issued for his arrest.

On July 28, Woods was arrested by the Morgan City Police Department. Woods was transferred to the custody of the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office on Monday. Woods was was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention pending bond proceedings.

--Gregory J. Gros Sr., 61, Levee Highway, Pierre Part, was arrested on warrants alleging him with failure to appear in court on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, public intimidation (threat to inflame) and possession of Suboxone.

Gros was previously arrested in Assumption Parish. He was ordered to appear in court Aug. 24 and failed to do so. Warrants were issued for his arrest Aug. 30.

Gros was arrested by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office on July 14. He was transferred and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center pending judicial proceedings.
