Teen arrested in Auburn Subdivision burglaries

A 16-year-old has been arrested in an investigation into burglaries in the Auburn Subdivision area, including one at an occupied home where the victim barricaded herself in a room, Morgan City police said.

The juvenile, a male, was arrested at 4:33 p.m. Monday on charges of attempted burglary, home invasion, access device fraud, attempted theft, two counts of possession of stolen property and two counts of simple burglary.

The investigation began with several burglary reports in the Auburn area July 11-14.

Video obtained from some of the incidents showed a masked person. During one of the reported burglaries, the victim was home at the time and barricaded herself in a room. The suspect fled before police arrived, the MCPD said.

According to reports, as the investigation progressed, a male juvenile was identified as a suspect when the one of the victim's credit cards was used at a local business.

Investigators executed a search warrant at the residence of the juvenile. Police located items reported stolen from one of the burglaries. Evidence was also located linking the juvenile to the multiple investigations.

The juvenile was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail, where he was booked and transferred to an out-of-area juvenile facility pending court proceedings through the Morgan City Juvenile Court.
