St. Mary traffic stop results in gun, heroin charges

St. Mary deputies, working with Lafourche and Terrbonne authorities, on Tuesday arrested a man now accused of charges that include illegal gun possession and possession of heroin.

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff's Office responded to 31 complaints and made these arrests:

--Tyren Authement, 21, Houma, was arrested at 11:58 p.m. Tuesday on charges of illegal possession of a stolen firearm, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of a firearm by a felon, transactions involving drug proceeds and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.

Authement was also named in a a Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office warrant alleging possession of firearm by a felon and attempted second-degree murder.

On Tuesday, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office detectives were assisting the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office on a case and were searching for Authement. They contacted detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office with information that Authement was traveling toward St. Mary Parish and provided a vehicle description.

A short time later, a patrol deputy observed a vehicle matching the description and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with a passenger and the driver, who was identified as Authement.

SMPSO and TPSO detectives obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and through the search, firearms, drugs and money were seized. Authement was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.

Bail has not yet been set on the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office charges and a hold has been placed on Authement by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office.

SMPSO detectives recognized the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office and the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office for the collaborative effort leading to this arrest.

--Hunter James Trahan, 22, Franklin, was arrested at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday on charges of reckless operation with accident, no insurance, open container, failure to report an accident, and hit and run.

Bail has not been set at this time.

--Lateachis Shavon Washington, 34, Morgan City, was arrested at 3 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, speeding and reckless operation of a vehicle. Washington was released on a $3,000 bond.

--John Joseph Brunet, 33, Morgan City, was arrested at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on a charge of hit and run. Brunet was released on his own recognizance.

--Felicia Margaret Young, 51, Morgan City, was arrested at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on a charge of domestic abuse (aggravated assault). Bail was set at $8,000.

Morgan City

Chief Chad M. Adams reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 55 calls for service over the last 24-hour reporting period and made these arrests:

--Troy James Bartholomew Jr., 27, Manhattan Boulevard, Harvey was arrested on a charge of failure to appear arraignment (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

--Charles Junius Simmons, 28, Shell Beach Road, Pierre Part, was arrested at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of possession of methamphetamine.

--Joshua Dale Repp, 24, Oak Lane, Pierre Part, was arrested at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Franklin

Chief Cedric Handy reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to six complaints over the last 24-hour reporting period and made these arrests:

--Tyrone Freeman, 54, Franklin, was arrested at 1:59 p.m. Tuesday on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, simple criminal damage to property, and two counts of resisting an officer.

Freeman was booked, processed and held on an $8,500 bond.

--Heather Theriot, 45, La. 87, Franklin, was arrested at 2:13 p.m. Tuesday on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. Theriot was booked, processed and released to appear in 3rd Ward City Court.
