Six local people arrested on battery charges

(Editor’s note: The charges listed here and the narratives that go with them are provided by the police agencies that made the arrests. Guilt or innocence has not been determined in court.)

Local law enforcement agencies reported six arrests on battery charges plus arrests alleging assault and weapons violations.

Assumption authorities arrested a suspect in a 2023 armed robbery in Bayou L’Ourse.

Morgan City

Chief Chad M. Adams reported these arrests:

•Jamar Murray, 27, Willow Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 11:30 a.m. Friday on a charge of simple battery.

•Monique Falcon, 58, Mercury Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 3 p.m. Friday on a charge of simple battery.

•Traylon Grogan, 33, Wren Street, Morgan City, was arrested 12:41 p.m. Saturday on charges of battery of emergency room personnel and two counts of failure to pay fine (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

•Sylvester Francois, 27, Taft Street, Patterson, was arrested at 3 p.m. Sunday on a charge of simple battery.

•John Watne Ross, 56, La. 182, Morgan City, was arrested at 7:45 p.m. March 5 on charges of false imprisonment and simple battery.

•Dayshawn Short, 40, Jupiter Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:01 p.m. Friday on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, introduction of contraband into a penal institution, no seat belt and failure to appear for arraignment (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

•Nathaniel Paul, 32, Fifth Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 3:23 p.m. Friday on a charge of criminal trespass.

•Gage Yates, 24, Gen. Hodges Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:32 p.m. Friday on charges of possession of marijuana (first offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia. (Released on summons.)

•Carlon Gonsoulin, 35, Chennault Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:16 p.m. Saturday as a fugitive from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.

•Destiny Dinger, 36, Tiffany Street, Patterson, was arrested at 4:56 p.m. Thursday on two counts of failure to pay fine (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

•Daquan Watts, 21, Bayou Black Drive, Gibson, was arrested at 1:29 a.m Friday on a charge of possession of marijuana (first offense). (Released on summons.)

St. Mary

Sheriff Gary Driskell reported these arrests:

•Michael Lewis, 62, Jeanerette, was arrested at 3:39 p.m. Saturday on charges of violation of protective orders and simple battery. Bail has not been set at this time.

•Kobbie Javon George, 44, Jeanerette, was arrested at 10:04 a.m. Friday on a warrant alleging possession of a firearm by a felon and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities. Bail has been set at $85,000.

•Omar Edwin Carcamo-Banegas, 29, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:12 a.m. Saturday on a charge of misuse of 911. Bail was set at $2,500.

•Amber Gunnells, 36, New Iberia, was arrested at 11:47 p.m. Saturday on charges of criminal trespass and resisting arrest or officer. Bail was set at $6,000.

•Jeremiah Thomas Singleton, 23, Amelia, was arrested at1:54 p,m. Thursday on a restraining order violation. Singleton continues to be incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.

•Wynn Candler Whitehurst, 49, Patterson, was arrested at 3:39 p.m. Thursday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on charges of possession of a firearm or carrying a concealed weapon by a felon, possession of methamphetamine, obstruction of justice (tampering), possession of drug paraphernalia, and illegal use, possession or control of
weapons (crime of violence).

Bail was set at $55,000.

•Jarett Reed, 30, Bayou Vista, was arrested at 8:49 p.m. Thursday on charges of open container and driving while intoxicated. Bail was set at $3,500.

•Dung H. Cenac, 28, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:01 p.m. Thursday on a charge of theft. Bail was set at $1,500.

•Gary Paul Vining, 56, Bayou Vista, was arrested by the Narcotics Section at 3:24 p.m. Thursday on a Morgan City Police Department warrant alleging criminal mischief (tampering with property). Bail was set at $500.

•Wilson Jovon Jackson, 43, Jeanerette, was arrested at 12:22 pm on a warrant for failure to appear for the charges of driving under suspension and improper headlights. Bail has not been set at this time.

•Scotty Allen Pellerin, 44, Franklin, was arrested at 4:32 p.m. March 5 on three warrants alleging failure to appear on charges of theft (less than $1,000), entry on or remaining in places or on land after being forbidden, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of synthetic cannabinoids.

Bail has not been set at this time.

Patterson

Chief Garrett Grogan reported these arrests:

•Louis R. Parker Jr., 44, Martin Luther King Drive, Patterson, was arrested at 12:14 p.m. Friday on a charge of simple criminal damage to property. Parker is incarcerated at the Patterson PD Jail with no bond set.

•Anndy Jafet-Jimenez Sanchez, 24, Plum Street, Patterson, was arrested at 6:46 p.m. Saturday on charges of speeding 1-10 mph over the limit and no driver’s license. Sanchez was incarcerated at the Patterson PD Jail with bond set at $556.

•Cheyenne H.M. Aucoin, 30, Main Street, Patterson, 8:02 a.m. Sunday on charges of obscenity, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and possession of drug paraphernalia. Aucoin was incarcerated at the Patterson PD Jail with no bond set.

•Emma M. Fulks, 38, Parish Road, Franklin, was arrested at 8:02 a.m. Sunday on charges of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, resisting an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. Fulks was incarcerated the Patterson PD Jail with no bond set.

•Beyonsha J. Madison, 21, Park Road, Patterson, was arrested at 11:10 p.m. Sunday on charges of driver’s license suspended or revoked, no insurance and two headlights required. Madison was released on a citation.

Berwick

Chief David Leonard Sr. reported these arrests:

•Danayre Smith, 29, Berwick, was arrested at 4:54 p.m. Thursday on a charge of disturbing the peace (intoxicated).

About 4:45 p.m. Thursday, the Berwick Police Department received several calls about a female walking into traffic on the U.S. 90 bridge. Officers responded, located Smith and observed her to be walking in front of vehicles, preventing traffic flow.

Contact was made with Smith, who appeared to be impaired on some type of medication or narcotic. Smith was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department, where she was booked on the above charge.

•Shane Desormeaux, 47, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:30 p.m. Saturday on a charge of possession of marijuana (less than 14 grams).

About 9:27 p.m. Saturday, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle after an equipment violation was observed. Officers made contact with Desormeaux.

While an officer spoke with Desormeaux, an odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle, and he admitted to having marijuana. A search of the vehicle was conducted, and marijuana was located. Desormeaux was placed under arrest and released on a summons to appear in court.

•Isaac Fuhrer, 23, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:45 a.m. Sunday on charges of possession of psilocybin mushrooms, possession of marijuana (under 14 grams, summons) and possession of drug paraphernalia (summons).

About 10:27 a.m. Sunday, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle after it was observed speeding 72 mph in a 55 mph zone. Officers met with the driver, who was identified as Fuhrer.

While officers spoke with Fuhrer, an odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted, at which time marijuana and items of paraphernalia were located inside.

Fuhrer was also found to be in possession of Psilocybin mushrooms.

A computer check revealed that his driver’s license was suspended. Fuhrer was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department for booking. Fuhrer was issued a summons for the marijuana and paraphernalia and issued a citation for the speeding and suspended driver’s license. Fuhrer was booked on the charge of the
psilocybin mushrooms.

Franklin

Chief Cedric Hardy reported these arrests:

•Keriona Beasley, 21, St. Peters Street, Jeanerette, was arrested at 5:27 a.m. Saturday on a charge of simple assault. Beasley was booked, processed and released on a $1,000.00 bond.

•Jobe Stratton, 19, La. 70, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:22 p.m. Friday on charges of speeding and reckless operation. Stratton was booked, processed and released on a $394.50 bond.

•Shawn Jenkins, 48, Morris Street, Franklin, was arrested at 3:05 p.m. Friday on charges of theft and remaining where forbidden. Jenkins was booked, processed and held on a $2,000 bond.

•Charlie Williams, 46, Blakesley Street, Franklin, was arrested at 1:42 a.m. Sunday on a warrant for the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office alleging possession of methamphetamine. Williams was booked, processed and held with no bond set at the time of press release.

Assumption

Sheriff Leland Falcon reported this arrest:

•Jedarrius Jaylon Brown, 20, Starlight Drive, Lafayette, was booked March 5 on charges of armed robbery and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

The charges result from an incident near Bayou L’Ourse on Dec. 28, 2023, when deputies responded to a complaint in the 200 block of Murial Street in reference to an armed robbery.

Deputies made contact with the victim, who indicated that he was walking in the area of La. 398 and La. 663 when he was approached by a male who attacked him.

Shortly thereafter, multiple subjects wearing masks, some of whom were armed, robbed him of cash.

Detectives initiated an investigation and were able to identify multiple suspects, including Brown. Detectives secured arrest warrants for Brown.

Brown was most recently being held in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Facility on local charges there.

Brown was released to the custody of the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
