Sheriff: Man dies after Amelia shooting

Tuesday night shooting under investigation

A 23-year-old Amelia man has died after being shot Tuesday night in Amelia, according to a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office news release. The investigation into his death continues.

Just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, St. Mary Parish sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a possible shooting on Friendship Alley in Amelia, the release said.

Deputies located an unresponsive man who sustained a gunshot wound. The man, identified as Christopher Singleton, 23, of Amelia, was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance, the release stated. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital, the release said. This is an ongoing, active investigation.
