Police: Man fled from police, crashed motorcycle

A Berwick man not only crashed his motorcycle but now faces resisting arrest and speeding charges, police said.

Joshua David Dimaggio, 25, Rose Street, Berwick was booked Monday In Morgan City on charges of improper turn, resisting by flight, general speed law, no insurance and no registration.

According to police accounts, Morgan City officers were working a traffic detail on the U.S. 90 bridge about 2:45 p.m. Monday when a motorcycle driving by DiMaggio was seen traveling at a high rate of speed.

When the officer attempted a stop, DiMaggio fled west on U.S. 90 as the officer tried to catch up, police said.

DiMaggio turned into the St. Mary Plaza Shopping Center in Bayou Vista, where he crashed the motorcycle. He was arrested and taken to the Morgan City Jail.

The Bayou Vista Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene due to gasoline leaking from the motorcycle. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the incident
