Police make arrests in two Seventh Street burglaries

Morgan City detectives have arrested two teens, including a 14-year-old, in a Seventh Street business burglary captured on video, the Police Department said.
Police have also recovered a firearm stolen in an earlier burglary to which the older suspect, 18, has confessed.

Arrested were:

--Christopher McClendon, 18, Shannon Street, Morgan City, at 11:45 p.m. Monday on charges of aggravated burglary, simple burglary, illegal possession of stolen firearms and contributing the delinquency of a juvenile.

--A juvenile male, 14, at 11:45 a.m. Monday on a charge of simple burglary.

Investigators with the Morgan City Police Department Detectives Division began an investigation Saturday into a burglary that occurred at business in the area of Seventh Street.

A video showed two people breaking into the business a third acting as a lookout.

An officer with the Morgan City Police Department Patrol Division recognized two of the suspects from a stop in June. One of those individuals was identified as McClendon, and the other was identified as a juvenile male. Arrest warrants for simple burglary were obtained for McClendon and the juvenile male.

Investigators executed a search warrant in the area of Shannon Street, where McClendon and the juvenile were located. They recovered a firearm that was reported to be stolen from a prior burglary investigation that occurred in June in the area of Seventh Street, police said.

Other evidence linked McClendon to the Saturday burglary.

According to reports, investigators questioned McClendon, who admitted to both burglaries that had occurred at both local businesses. McClendon said he was the sole individual who burglarized the business in June, police said.

McClendon and the juvenile male were arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for processing. Warrants were obtained for McClendon's arrest in the June burglary investigation and the additional charges linked to the second burglary investigation.

The juvenile male was processed and released to a guardian pending juvenile proceedings. McClendon was booked and processed into the Morgan City Jail, where he now awaits court proceedings.

The investigation continues regarding the third individual involved, and more warrants may follow, the Police Department said.
