Police: Amelia man arrested after vehicle and foot chase
An Amelia man was arrested Tuesday after attempting to flee from officers first in his vehicle, and then on foot, Morgan City police said.
Jerrence Christopher Ford, 36, Friendship Lane, Amelia, was arrested at 11:33 a.m. on charges of aggravated flight from an officer, aggravated obstruction of a highway, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, resisting an officer, driving under suspension and signals required. Ford was also arrested as a fugitive from Probation and Parole.
An officer with the Morgan City Police Department observed a vehicle initiate and improper turn and having improper window tint in the area of La.182 near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Morgan City police said.
A stop was initiated, but the operator of the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.
Officers gave chase on La. 182 toward Amelia. The suspect entered a field off Joel Boulevard and fled on foot. The officer gave chase onto Friendship Alley, where Ford was taken into custody.
Ford was found to be a fugitive from Probation and Parole, and his driver’s license was suspended. Ford was arrested on charges related to the vehicle pursuit and incarcerated in the Morgan City Jail, where he now awaits court proceedings.
