Morgan City police say they seized quarter-pound of meth in traffic stop
A traffic stop for widow tint Wednesday led officers to a quarter-pound of methamphetamine and two arrests, Morgan City police said
Brian Joseph Derouen, 36, Garber Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 1:54 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Nicole Swackhamer Jones, 39, Garber Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 1:54 a.m. Wednesday on charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under suspension and window tint violation.
Investigators with the Morgan City Police Department Narcotics Division initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle Thursday in the area of Garber Street due to a window tint violation.
According to reports, Jones was identified as the operator of the vehicle along with another occupant, identified as Derouen. Jones' driver's license was found to be under suspension.
Reports indicate that Jones was found to be in possession of approximately a quarter-pound of suspected methamphetamine, the Police Department said. She was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.
During the investigation, it was learned that Derouen and Jones had gone to the New Iberia area, where the illegal drugs were purchased. The investigation also uncovered evidence that the methamphetamine was destined for illicit sales, the Police Department said.
The vehicle was seized pending civil forfeiture.
Derouen and Jones were transported to the Morgan City Jail, where they were charged. They were incarcerated and now await court proceedings.
