Assumption and Morgan City authorities each made an arrest this week on charges of possession of cocaine in distribution quantities.
Sheriff Leland Falcon reported this arrest:
--James Henry Cox, Jr., 40, Jamie Court, Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested Tuesday on charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute Xanax, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal carrying of weapons in the presence of controlled dangerous substances and resisting an officer.
The arrest results from an ongoing narcotics investigation. As a result of that investigation, narcotics agents developed information indicating that Cox was trafficking in illegal narcotics.
As the investigation progressed, agents developed probable cause sufficient to obtain a search warrant for a residence located on Jamie Court. On Tuesday morning, deputies and agents converged on the residence for the purpose of executing the search warrant. As a result of that search, a significant quantity of illegal controlled dangerous substances, assorted paraphernalia and firearms were seized.
Cox was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center and remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
