UPDATE: All eight East Carroll escapees recaptured

UPDATE: On Saturday, Louisiana State Police reported all eight escaped inmates had been recaptured.

A St. Mary Parish man is among five inmates still at large after eight escaped early Friday from River Bend Detention Center in East Carroll Parish.

The eight were discovered to be missing about 1:20 a.m., Louisiana State Police said. The state police said the five inmates who haven’t been recaptured should be considered dangerous.

Krisean Salinas, 21, Morgan City, has an arrest record in St. Mary. Salinas was booked here in January 2025 on charges of aggravated flight from an officer and theft as well as six traffic charges. Salinas was also named in active warrants from the Morgan City Police Department, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office and the Houma Police Department.

Two of the inmates still at large, Destin Brogan, 22, East Baton Rouge, and Kellen Looney, 21, Lafayette, faced murder charges. Koplelon Vicknair, 19, Arnaudville, also at large, was awaiting sentencing on a plea to a reduced charge of manslaughter.

Trenton Taplin, 29, Baton Rouge, was awaiting trial on second-degree murder and attempted murder charges. He has been recaptured.

The fugitives still at large were identified as:

--Kevin Slaughter, 21
--Looney, 21
--Salinas
--Vicknair, 19.

These inmates have been recaptured:
--Taplin
--Savon Wheeler, 31
--Hugo Molino, 27
