In the process, the victim’s account at home improvement stores in Kenner and Harahan had been illegally used to obtain goods at a value in excess of $9,000. Detectives were able to obtain electronic surveillance footage that led to a series of events that allowed investigators the ability to identify Smith as a suspect.

As law enforcement attempted to stop a vehicle being driven by Smith, he engaged officers in a pursuit situation on the West Bank of Jefferson Parish. Smith abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later.

Smith was arrested and booked into the Jefferson Parish Detention Center with bond set at $135,000.
