St. Mary Parish deputies seized 100 pieces of stolen mail, plus drugs and drug paraphernalia, in a search at a Franklin woman's home.

Franklin woman accused of stealing 100 pieces of mail

A Franklin woman has been accused of stealing 100 pieces of mail, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 96-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 152 complaints and made these arrests:

--Mavis Sue Pontiff, 49, Franklin, was arrested at 7:24 p.m. Saturday on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Schedule II drugs and 100 counts of theft.

In the past few weeks, the SMPSO detectives have been investigating multiple mail thefts in the Centerville and Verdunville areas. Through the investigation, deputies obtained video that showed an older model vehicle pulling up to mailboxes and then driving off.

Homeowners reported mail missing from their mailbox on Saturday. A vehicle matching the description was reported, and detectives learned that the owner of the vehicle was Pontiff.

Detectives made contact with Pontiff and established her as the suspect in the mail thefts.

A search warrant was obtained for Pontiff’s camper, and during the execution of the search warrant, drugs, drug paraphernalia, and 100 pieces of stolen mail were recovered.

Pontiff was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail was set at $105,000.

This is an ongoing investigation and SMPSO detectives are asking anyone who believes they have been a victim of this crime to please contact 337-828-1960 and ask to speak to the detective who is working this case.

--Wade Nathan White, 30, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:42 p.m. Friday on a charge of battery of a correctional officer. White continues to be incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.

--George Charles Oubre Jr., 57, Jeanerette, was arrested at 10:50 p.m. Friday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on the charge of battery of a dating partner. Bail has not been set at this time.

--Megan Elizabeth Hatcherson, 35, Franklin, was arrested at 11:51 p.m. Friday on a charge of disturbing the peace (fighting). Hatcherson was released on a $1,000 bond.

--Cameron Mitchell, 23, Franklin, was arrested at 11:18 p.m. Friday on a charge of disturbing the peace (fighting). Mitchell was released on a $1,000 bond.

--Byron Keith Wesley 25, Franklin, was arrested at 7:42 p.m. Saturday on a charge of disturbing the peace (fighting) and two counts of resisting arrest or officer. Bail was set at $2,400.

--Kye Michael Sanders, 23, Morgan City, was arrested at 11:03 p.m. Saturday on charges of reckless operation (no accident), open container and mufflers (modification of exhaust system). Sanders was released on a $1,250 bond.

--Elvin Josue Calix-Guzman, 21, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:25 p.m. Sunday on charges of driving while intoxicated, improper lane usage and driver must be licensed. Calix-Guzman was released on a $3,000 bond.

--Carlos Garcia, 19, Amelia, was arrested at 12:17 a.m. Monday on charges of driving under the influence (under age), drag racing, racing on public roads (exemptions) and driver must be licensed. Garcia was released on a $2,000 bond.

--Alejandro Ruiz, 45, Morgan City, was arrested at 1:34 a.m. Monday on charges of failure to dim headlights, driving while intoxicated (third offense) and driver must be licensed. Bail was set at $75,000.

--Maranda Nicole Hampton, 30, Morgan City, was arrested at 3:41 p.m. Monday on an Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant alleging failure to appear on the charge of failure to register as a sex offender or child predator. Hampton is being held for another agency.

--Steven Antoine Christopher, 35, Morgan City, was arrested at 11:14 p.m. Monday on a charge of cruelty to animals. Bail was set at $1,500.

Morgan City

Chief Chad M. Adams reported that over the extended holiday reporting period, the Morgan City Police Department responded to 277 calls for service and made these arrests:

--Alfred L. Favors, 64, Mallard Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:28 a.m. Friday on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and on a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant alleging possession with intent to distribute cocaine, improper lane usage and driving under suspension.

--Shawn D. Scully, 48, Yellow Bayou Road, Franklin, was arrested at 12:24 a.m. Friday on a warrant alleging failure to appear for trial (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

--Anthony L. Watson Jr., 32, Garber Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:55 p.m. Friday as a fugitive from the Lafayette Police Department.

--Zacolby L. Granger, 31, Grace Street, Morgan City, was arrested Friday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense) and driving under suspension.

--Casey Chenevert, 26, Elk Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 11:14 p.m. Friday on charges of possession of Xanax, possession of marijuana, possession of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, obstructing public passages and parking prohibited.

--Reandrea W. Taylor, 35, Clements Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 5:01 p.m. Saturday on a warrant alleging failure to appear (16th Judicial District Court).

--Michael Conklin, 49, Slidell, was arrested at 11:50 p.m. Saturday on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

--Erica D. Lee, 39, Fairfield Avenue, Baton Rouge, was arrested at 1:06 a.m. Monday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense) and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

--Allie G. Vincent, 23, Fourth Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:15 a.m. Sunday on a charge of driving while intoxicated (first offense).

--Corvion Smith, 21 Freret Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:50 a.m. Sunday on charges of disturbing the peace (language), possession of marijuana and remaining after forbidden.

--Dylan D. Robinson, 25, Chennault Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 3:06 p.m. Sunday on a warrant alleging failure to appear to pay fine (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

--Celio J. Ortega, 23, Verret Street, Amelia, was arrested at 7:37 p.m. Sunday on a charge of failure to appear for trial (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

--Yahir P. Romero, 20, Brashear Avenue, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:30 p.m. Sunday on charges of battery of a dating partner and battery of a dating partner (child endangerment).

--Kora McCorkle, 18, Fifth Street, Berwick, was arrested at 11:44 p.m. Friday on a charge of disturbing the peace (fighting).

--Derick Domingue, 36, Mayon Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:38 p.m. Sunday on a charge of driver must be licensed.

--Reynaldo Zelaya, 29, Leona Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 1:38 a.m. Monday on charges of possession of fraudulent documents, driver must be licensed and no turn signal.

Patterson

Chief Garrett Grogan reported these arrests:

--Dyamond L. Johnson, 22, Heidi Circle, Scott, was arrested at 8:25 p.m. Monday on charges of possession of marijuana, criminal trespass and criminal mischief. Johnson was incarcerated at the Patterson PD Jail with bond and fine set at $3,500.

--Isiah J. Gant, 22, Hickory Street, Patterson, was arrested at 8:25 p.m. Monday on charges of possession of marijuana, criminal trespass and criminal mischief. Gant is incarcerated at the Patterson PD Jail with bond and fine set at $3,500.

Berwick

Chief David S. Leonard reported these arrests:

--Kelli Barrilleaux, 50, Berwick, was arrested at 5:25 a.m. Friday on a warrant alleging unauthorized use of an access card.

On Aug. 25, the Berwick Police Department received a complaint of fraudulent bank charges made to an account. Officers met with the complainant, who advised that over the last several months, Barrilleaux had made several transactions from his account without his permission.

Evidence was gathered linking Barrilleaux to these transactions, and a warrant was issued for her arrest. On Monday, Barrilleaux turned herself in at the Berwick Police Department.

--Darrelynn Green, 34, Jeanerette, was arrested at 2:35 a.m. Saturday on charges of possession of heroin and general speed law.

--Timothy Humphrey, 35, Amelia, was arrested at 2:35 a.m. Saturday on a charge of possession of heroin.

About 1:40 a.m. Saturday, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle after it was observed going well below the posted speed limit on U.S. 90. Officers made contact with Green and Humphrey.

Through the course of the stop, a K-9 was deployed on the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics. A search was conducted, at which time heroin was located.

Both Green and Humphrey were placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department, where they were booked.

--Jeremie Watson, 42, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:33 a.m. Monday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense), reckless operation of a motor vehicle, open alcoholic container and possession of marijuana (under 14 grams).

About 12:20 a.m. Monday, a vehicle was observed traveling in a reckless manner on U.S. 90, forcing other vehicles off the roadway. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle, and officers made contact with Watson.

Watson showed signs of impairment, and he performed poorly on standardized field sobriety. Through the course of the stop, open alcoholic beverages were located inside his vehicle along with marijuana.

Watson was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department, where he provided a valid breath sample of 0.229G% BAC. Watson was then booked.

--Osias Martinez-Cardona, 18, Berwick, was arrested at 10:05 p.m. Monday on charges of possession of THC, red light violation and no driver’s license.

About 9:50 p.m. Monday, a vehicle was observed disregarding a traffic light on U.S. 90. A traffic stop was conducted and officers made contact with Martinez-Cardona. Through the course of the stop, Martinez-Cardona admitted to having THC products inside the vehicle. Officers recovered the items, and Martinez-

Cardona was placed under arrest and released on a summons to appear in court.

Assumption

Sheriff Leland Falcon reported these arrests:

--Hobie Paul Hebert, 26, Paul Street, Pierre Part, was arrested Sunday on charges of possession of cocaine, taking contraband to or from a penal institution, obstruction of justice, driving while impaired (third offense), resisting an officer, illegal window tint and smoking on motor vehicle prohibited.

-- Farrah N. Domingue, 25, Shell Beach, Belle River, was arrested Sunday on charges of possession of hydrocodone, possession of oxycodone, smoking in motor vehicle prohibited and possession of marijuana.

The arrests followed a traffic stop at La. 70 and South Bay Road Sunday.

A uniformed patrol deputy, on special holiday assignment, observed a vehicle with an equipment violation and initiated a stop. As the deputy executed the stop, the two occupants switched seating positions.

The driver was identified as Hebert, and when he was ordered to exit the vehicle, he refused to do so. The deputy was able to remove and detain Hebert.

Domingue was interviewed by the deputy. The deputy summoned a K-9 unit to the location. The K-9 conducted an open-air sniff of the suspect vehicle and alerted to the presence of illegal controlled dangerous substances.

A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of marijuana, hydrocodone and oxycodone. Hebert and Domingue were arrested.

Once at the detention center, a more invasive personal search of Hebert resulted in the seizure of a quantity of cocaine.

Hebert and Domingue remain incarcerated pending a bond hearing.

-- Alysha M. Carlton, 35, East Verna Street, Gonzales, was arrested Sunday on a charge of failure to appear for drug court in St. Mary Parish.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of David Street on two separate complaints of some type of disturbance. On Sunday afternoon, investigating deputies were advised by a former domestic partner that the source of the disturbance was Carlton and that she was in a shed behind the main residence. The deputy was able to locate Carlton and took her into custody.

During processing, deputies learned that Carlton was wanted by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office on a fugitive warrant. She was issued a misdemeanor summons for disturbing the peace in Assumption Parish and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on the fugitive warrant.

--Harley Marie Campo, 28, Burchfield Lane, Berwick, was arrested Friday on a warrant alleging probation violation.

Campo was convicted of possession of methamphetamine in Assumption Parish on June 6, 2022. She was placed under supervised probation for one year.

During the term of probation, Campo was ordered to comply with specific conditions and violated those conditions.

A warrant was issued by the Louisiana Department of Corrections on July 21. She was arrested Friday by the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and transferred to the custody of the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Campo was ordered held without bond.

Franklin

Chief Cedric Handy reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to 23 complaints over the holiday weekend and made these arrests:

--Aalyiah Batiste, 23, Plantation Drive, Franklin, was arrested at 1:21 p.m. Friday on a charge of simple battery. Batiste was booked, processed and released to appear in 3rd Ward City Court.

--LaRachel Batiste, 44, Cayce Street, Franklin, was arrested at 1:21 p.m. Friday on charges of simple battery and possession of drug paraphernalia (second offense). Batiste was booked, processed and released to appear in 3rd Ward City Court.

--Claire Istre, 22, of Melbry Road, Lafayette, was arrested at 10:58 p.m. Friday on charges of speeding and reckless operation of a vehicle. Istre was booked, processed and released on $644 bond.

--Jakaymine Sonnier, 23, Julian Circle, Lafayette, was arrested at 12:34 pm. Saturday on charges of speeding and driving under suspension. Sonnier was booked, processed and released on a $1,250 bond.

--Shawn Jenkins, 46, Morris Street, Franklin, was arrested at 10:58 p.m. Sunday on charges of simple assault, remaining where forbidden, disturbing the peace (intoxication) and resisting an officer. Jenkins was booked, processed and held on a $5,000 bond.

--Kassie Gill, 40, Demandre Street, Belle Chase, was arrested at 7:45 a.m. Monday on charges of speeding, driving under suspension and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. Gill was booked, processed and released on an $819 bond.

--Jesse Zaidman, 27, Canada, was arrested at 10 a.m. Monday on charges of speeding and possession of marijuana. Zaidman was booked, processed and released on a $463.50 bond.
