Drug, bribery, weapon charges among arrests reported locally

St. Mary Parish police agencies reported seven drug-related arrests over the long holiday period, plus other arrests on bribery, theft, weapon and obstruction charges.

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 120-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 149 complaints and made these arrests:

--Quentin Theodore Delco, 41, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:40 p.m. Monday on charges of possesson of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail has not been set at this time.

--Cedric Benjamin Gant, 26, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday on charges of proper equipment required on vehicles, driving under suspension and possession of marijuana.

Bail has not been set at this time.

--Collin Richard Granger, 43, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:27 p.m. Saturday on charges of theft and criminal mischief (false report). Bail has not been set at this time.

--Byron Keith Wesley, 25, Franklin, was arrested at 5:12 a.m. Tuesday on two St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrants alleging failure to appear and an active warrant out of Tarrant
County, Texas. Bail has not been set at this time.

--Kimberly Rene Glynn, 33, Morgan City, was arrested at 1:03 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of issuing worthless checks. Bail was set at $500.

--Theresa Ruffin Jones, 66, Franklin, was arrested at 9:25 a.m. Monday on a charge of obstruction of justice. Bail was set at $5,000

Morgan City

Chief Chad M. Adams reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 125 calls for service over the last 48-hour holiday reporting period and made these arrests:

--Rashon Anthony Jones, 20, Bush Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:50 p.m. Monday on charges of possession of a firearm with obliterated serious numbers, possession of marijuana, illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of juveniles and possession of drug paraphernalia.

--Harley Marie Campo, 28, Third Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:54 a.m. Monday on a charge of remaining after forbidden.

--Cherri Ann Pennison, 47, Railroad Avenue, Morgan City, was arrested at 4:28 p.m. Monday on a charge of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.

--Marvin Ray Hudson Jr., 53, Florida, was arrested at 6:21 p.m. Monday on a charge of remaining after forbidden.

--John N. Verdin, 56, Egle Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 3:49 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of criminal damage to property, disturbing the peace, bribery and failure to appear for executory sentence (16th Judicial District Court).

--Andrew William Kovac Jr., 41, Arkansas Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:43 a.m.Wednesday on a charge of failure to appear to pay fine (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

Assumption

Sheriff Leland Falcon reported these arrests:

--Shemar Devin Lawson, 22, Elmira Court, Thibodaux, was arrested Friday on charges of possession of marijuana, possesson of hydrocodone and driver must be licensed.

A uniformed patrol deputy first observed the vehicle in the Labadieville area as the driver reduced his speed drastically after seeing the deputy. The suspect vehicle then drove on La.
398 to Bayou L’Ourse and again was encountered by the deputy.

A stop of the vehicle was initiated, and the deputy conducted an interview of the driver, now identified as Lawson. The driver did not possess a valid driver’s license.

During the interview, Lawson provided a cigarette pack to the deputy containing contained suspected marijuana. The deputy summoned a K-9 to the location.

The K-9 conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted positive for the presence of controlled dangerous substances. During a search of the vehicle, a quantity of hydrocodone was seized.

Lawson was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center and released on a $7,500 bond.

--Ryan Dale Smith, 38, Swift Road, Morse, was arrested Saturday on charges of possession of Xanax and careless operation of a motor vehicle.

On Saturday, a uniformed patrol deputy observed an eastbound vehicle on U.S. 90 near Amelia nearly cause an accident. The deputy initiated a stop of the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Smith. The deputy interviewed Smith and at the conclusion of that interview believed that additional investigation was warranted.

The deputy requested and was granted consent to search the vehicle.

During the subsequent search, a quantity of Xanax (alprazolam) was seized.

Smith was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center Ryan and released on a $12,500 bond.

--Kevin J. Hue Sr., 44, La.70, Pierre Part, was arrested Friday on charges of resisting an officer with force or violence, public intimidation and remaining after forbidden.

Deputies were dispatched to a Pierre Part address in connection to a disturbance. Deputies made contact with the complainant as well as other involved parties,including Hue and
Toby Joseph Breaux, 24, Derrick Street, Pierre Part.

Deputies interviewed the parties and determined that Hue was involved in an altercation with a third party. Breaux intervened on the third party’s behalf and at some point, allegedly committed a battery on Hue.

Breaux was issued a misdemeanor summons alleging simple battery and released with a court date. All parties dispersed and were told to stay away from each other.

Shortly thereafter, the deputy was notified that Hue was lingering in the area of the home of Breaux. The deputy was able to confirm the allegation and spoke with Hue.

As the deputy confronted Hue, the situation turned physical. Hue was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention and remains incarcerated with bond set at $60,000.

Franklin

Chief Cedric Handyreported that the Franklin Police Department responed to 16 complaints over the last 48-hour reporting period and made these arrests:

--Girard Navy, 31, Ninth Street, Franklin, was arrested at 10:59 a.m. Monday on a charge of criminal damage to property. Navy was booked, processed and released on a $1,000 bond.

--Brian James, 44, Joseph Street, Franklin, was arrested at 7:55 p.m. Monday on a warrant dated May 4 alleging domestic abuse battery (child endangerment). James was additionally arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana. James was booked, processed and held with no bond set at the time of press release.

--Joseph Lewis, 33, Cedar Street, Franklin, was arrested at 10:37 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Lewis was booked, processed and held with no bond set at the time of press release.

--Dontavian Robinson, 21, Hillcrest Road, Mobile, Alabama, was arrested at midnight Tuesday on charges of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and aggravated assault.
Robinson was booked, processed and held with no bond set at the time of press release.
