Drug arrests reported locally; woman accused of cruelty to animal

Authorities in Morgan City, Franklin, St. Mary and Assumption all reported recent arrests on drug-related charges.

St. Mary deputies also arrested a woman accused a woman of failing to care for her dog.

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 96-hour reporting period, the Sheriff's Office responded to 196 complaints and made these arrests:

--Dakota Breeze Kleimann, 31, Morgan City, was arrested at 11:24 a.m. Saturday on a charge of cruelty to animals.

On Dec. 19, a deputy was dispatched to a local business in Bayou Vista in reference to an animal complaint. The deputy made contact with the complainants, who stated that a dog behind the business was observed to be in a sick and malnourished condition.

One of the complainants requested to transport the dog to a local veterinarian for treatment. The dog was transported to the vet, and the deputy traveled to the residence to investigate.

The deputy made contact with a woman at the residence, identified as Dakota Kleinmann. The deputy opened an investigation to establish who owned the dog and who was responsible for the care of the dog.

As the investigation progressed, Kleimann was established as the responsible party in the case. Kleimann was arrested on the charge of cruelty to animals due to having the dog in a malnourished state for a prolonged period of time without seeking proper medical care for the dog. She was subsequently released on a summons to appear in court.

--Jerroid Jermaine Garrison, 31, Patterson, was arrested at 10:33 p.m. Sunday on charges of no driver's license, violation of protective orders and possession of marijuana. Bail has not been set at this time.

--Sonia Marie Todd, 45, Patterson, was arrested at 3:40 a.m. Friday on charges of switched or stolen license plate, proper equipment required on vehicle and possession of methamphetamine, and on a warrant alleging failure to appear on a charge of criminal neglect of family. Bail has not been set at this time.

Morgan City

Chief Chad M. Adams reported that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Morgan City Police Department responded to 40 calls for service and made these arrests:

--Andrew Gros IV, 19, Fig Street, Morgan City, was arrested at noon Tuesday on a charge of disturbing the peace (language).

--Douglas Dilsaver Jr., 41, Sixth Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:26 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of possession of possession of marijuana.

Assumption

Sheriff Leland Falcon reported this arrest:

--Michael P. Lovell, 56, Stacy Street, Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested Friday on charges of possession of methamphetamine, driving on roadway laned for traffic and functioning brake equipment required.

--Angel Strictland Reeves, 31, Honey Lane, Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested Friday on a charge of possession of methamphetamine.

The charges result from a traffic stop on La. 182 in Bayou L’Ourse on Friday evening.

A uniformed patrol deputy assigned to the I.C.E. detail observed a vehicle with an equipment violation and initiated a stop of that vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified Lovell, and conducted an interview.

The deputy then made contact with the passenger and upon doing so observed the passenger attempting to conceal an unknown item under her clothing.

The deputy then detained the passenger, identified as Reeves.

At the conclusion of the interview, the deputy believed that additional investigation was warranted. The deputy requested and was granted consent to search the suspect vehicle. During the search process, deputies seized a quantity of methamphetamine.

Lovell was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center and released on a $5,000 commercial bond. Reeves remains incarcerated at the center with bond set at $5,000.

Franklin

Chief Cedric Handy reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to nine complaints over the past 24-hour reporting period and made these arrests:

--Kedesha Scott, 29, Taft Street, Patterson, was arrested at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for 3rd Ward City Court alleging failure to appear on charges of driving under suspension, vehicle license required, and no insurance.

Scott was additionally arrested on a warrant for 16th Judicial District Court on a charge of failure to appear on a charge of possession of alprazolam. Scott was booked, processed and held with no bond set at the time of press release.

--Jasmiera Jack, 24, Seventh Street, Franklin, was arrested at 9:16 p.m. Tuesday on charges of aggravated battery and possession of marijuana. Jack was booked, processed and held with no bond set at the time of press release.
