Domestic abuse, battery charges in recent arrests

St. Mary police agencies reported recent arrests including charges of domestic abuse and aggravated battery. Morgan City police also reported the arrest of a man on charges of possession with intent to distribute four illegal drugs.
Morgan City
Chief Chad M. Adams reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 99 calls for service over the last 72-hour reporting period and made these arrests:
--Laqwajhia Bourgeois, 26, Federal Avenue, Morgan City, was arrested at 6:45 a.m. Friday on a charge of domestic abuse battery.
--Laquanda Williams, 30, Egle Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 6:45 a.m. Friday on a charge of domestic abuse battery.
--Antonio Collins Jr., 39, Delmar Avenue, Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11:30 a.m. Friday on two counts of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, two counts of possession with intent to distribute MDMA, possession with intent to distribute Suboxone, two counts of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, violation of a drug-free zone, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia, and as a fugitive from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office.
--Joshua Kelly, 50, Brightside View, Baton Rouge, was arrested at 4:21 a.m. Sunday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense), reckless operation of a motor vehicle, obstruction of a roadway and driving under suspension.
--Carrie Ann Hubler, 36, Francis Street, Berwick, was arrested at 9:08 a.m. Sunday on charges of failure to appear for arraignment (16th Judicial District Court) and failure to appear for arraignment (Thibodaux City Court).
--Tiara Jackson, 29, North Second Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 7:40 p.m. Sunday on a charge of theft of utilities.
Assumption
Sheriff Leland Falcon reported this arrest:
--Jerret Charles Cortez, 35, Vivian Street, was arrested Friday on charges of domestic abuse battery (strangulation) and simple assault.
Deputies were dispatched to a Bayou L’Ourse home and made contact with the complainant, who advised that Cortez was observed on the property. The victim went outside to see what the suspect was doing there.
The accused, Cortez, immediately became aggressive toward the victim and at some point, made physical contact and grabbed the victim in a choking manner. The victim was able to free himself, but Cortez continued attacking him.
Another individual attempted to intervene but was unable to stop the attack. At some point, the suspect stopped striking the victim and walked off.
Deputies located Cortez and arrested him. Cortez was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
St. Mary
Sheriff Gary Driskell reported that over the last 120-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 212 complaints and made these arrests:
--Anthony Devonte’ Bowie, 29, Charenton, was arrested at 11:24 p.m. Friday on a charge of domestic abuse battery. Bail was set at $3,500.
--Coby Michael Boyd, 34, Franklin, was arrested at 12:03 a.m. June 19 on a warrant for failure to appear for the charge of criminal neglect of family. Boyd was released on his own recognizance.
--Hunter Michael Chauvin, 28, Houma, was arrested at 10:33 a.m. Thursday on a charge of failure to register as a sex offender or child predator. Chauvin was transferred to another jurisdiction.
--Hodges Matthews, 45, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:51 p.m. Junes 18 by the Narcotics Section on charges of improper lane usage, reckless operation of a vehicle, aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce and driving under suspension
Bail has been set at $52,250.
Franklin
Chief Cedric Handy reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to 18 complaints over the weekend and made these arrests:
--Joseph Thomas, 62, Myra Street, Franklin, was arrested at 8:24 p.m. Saturday on a charge of aggravated second-degree battery. Thomas was booked, processed and held with no bond set at the time of press release.
--Barry Jackson, 43, Seventh Street, Franklin, was arrested at 5:15 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for 3rd Ward City Court alleging failure to appear on charges of illuminating devices required and driving under suspension. Jackson was booked, processed and held on a $328 bond.
