Assumption

Sheriff Leland Falcon reported this arrest:

--Charles Joseph Barbier, 41, Pierre Part, was arrested Thursday on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding.

An I.C.E.-assigned deputy in the Cypress Street area of Belle River stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver was identified as Barbier.

The deputy believed additional investigation was warranted. A K-9 unit was summoned to the location. The K-9 conducted an open-air sniff of the suspect vehicle and alerted positive to the presence of controlled dangerous substances.

A search of the vehicle yielded assorted drug paraphernalia, suspected methamphetamine and a firearm. The deputy determined that Barbier was a convicted felon and therefore could not possess a firearm. The suspect further advised deputies of two additional firearms in his home, which were subsequently seized.

Barbier was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
