Berwick police, St. Mary deputies report drug, drunken driving arrests

St. Mary and Berwick authorities reported seven arrests over the weekend, including charges of drug possession and drunk driving.

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 110 complaints and made these arrests:

--Shannon Pauline Wainwright, 52, Morgan City, was arrested at 4:14 p.m. Sunday on charges of resisting arrest or officer, possession of synthetic cannabinoids, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and obstruction of justice (tampering).

Bail was set at $13,000.

--Darren James Darby, 27, Franklin, was arrested at 1:17 p.m. Saturday on a charge of battery of a correctional officer. Darby continues to be incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.

--Shakira Dashay Williams, 30, Jeanerette, was arrested at 1:53 p.m. Sunday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on charges of operating a vehicle while license is suspended, revoked, or canceled and speeding. Bail has not been set at this time.

--Ronnie Lee Landry, 47, Patterson, was arrested at 8:32 p.m. Saturday on charges of no headlights, brake lights required and driving while intoxicated. Landry was released on $3,000 bond.

--Mickeylee Berry, 38, Morgan City, was arrested at 11:44 p.m. Saturday on a charge of parole violation from Missouri. Berry is being held for another agency.

Berwick

Chief David S. Leonard reported these arrests:

-- Damien Keller, 40, Morgan City, was arrested at 6:27 p.m. Saturday on a charge of remaining where forbidden.

About 6:20 p.m. Saturday, the Berwick Police Department received a call from a local business in reference to a banned subject being on the premises. Officers responded and located Keller, who had been previously barred from the property.

Keller was placed under arrest and released on a summons to appear in court.

--Alberto Alfaro-Juarez, 49, Parro Lane, Berwick, was arrested at 1:10 a.m. Sunday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense), reckless operation of a motor vehicle and expired driver’s license.

About 12:45 a.m. Sunday, the Berwick Police Department received a call of a reckless driver on U.S. 90. Officers were given a description of the vehicle and were able to locate it. It was observed still traveling in a reckless manner.

A traffic stop was conducted, and officers made contact with the driver, who was identified as Alfaro- Juarez. While speaking with Alfaro- Juarez, he showed signs of impairment.

Standard field sobriety tests were conducted, and he performed poorly. He was placed under arrest and transported to Berwick Police Department, where he provided a valid breath sample of 0.155 G%.

Morgan City

Chief Chad M. Adams reported that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Morgan City Police Department responded to 119 calls for service and made these arrests:

--Edgar Delarosa, 37, Belanger Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:49 a.m. Saturday on charges of aggravated battery and two counts of resisting an officer.

--Erick D. Perez- Arias, 34, La. 182 Morgan City, was arrested at 2:58 a.m. Saturday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense), possession of alcoholic beverages in vehicle, driving under suspension and possession of cocaine.

--Sherman D, Thompkins, 39, Bowman Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:15 p.m. Saturday on charges of criminal damage to property (less than $1,000), criminal trespass and telephone harassment.

--Seth Fryou, 30, Bayou Black Drive, Gibson, was arrested at 3:33 a.m. Sunday on charges of telephone harassment and disturbing the peace (fighting).

--Randolph A. Joseph, 31, Robert Street, Franklin, was arrested at 6:04 a.m. Sunday on charges of disturbing the peace (drunkenness), resisting an officer and possession of marijuana.

--James R. Gregory, 30, Moffett Court, Morgan City, was arrested at 6:30 p.m. Sunday on a warrant alleging failure to appear (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

-Lanesha Navarre, 29, Brashear Avenue, Morgan City, was arrested at 5:08 a.m. Monday on a warrant alleging three counts of failure to appear (6th Ward Morgan City Court) and on charges of possession of marijuana, resisting an officer, disturbing the peace (language), front lamps required on bicycles, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
