Battery, assault arrests reported; juvenile detained in Franklin shooting

Morgan City and Franklin police and St. Mary deputies arrested five people on assault, battery or fighting charges Monday and Tuesday. Franklin police also reported the latest in a series of arrests related to a Nov. 15 shooting.

Morgan City

Chief Chad M. Adams reported that over the last 48-hour reporting period, the Morgan City Police Department responded to 88 calls for service and made these arrests:

--Garrett Daigle, 38, Roderick Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:22 a.m. Tuesday on charges of battery on a corrections officer and battery on a police officer.

--Stephanie M. Manjarrez, 30, Railroad Avenue, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:21 pm. Tuesday on charges of possession of methamphetamine and introduction of contraband into a penal institution.

--John J. Brunet, 33, Park Road, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:04 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant alleging failure to appear for arraignment (16th Judicial District Court).

--Darla R. Percle, 36, Carmen Street, Patterson, was arrested at 11:43 p.m. Tuesday as a fugitive from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.

--Takemia L. Thomas, Blum Boulevard, Berwick, was arrested at 10:47 a.m. Monday on charges of disturbing the peace (fighting) and disturbing the peace (language).

--Shanice S. Thomas, 35, Egle Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 1:23 p.m. Monday on charges of disturbing the peace (fighting) and disturbing the peace (language).

-- Earl L. Garrison, 59, L. 182, Morgan City, was arrested at 6:44 p.m. Monday on charges of battery on a dating partner and simple assault.

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 48-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 73 complaints and reports the following arrests:

--Mitchell Augustine Jr., 43, Pineville, was arrested at 10:32 a.m. Monday on a warrant alleging simple assault. Bail has not been set at this time.

--Shantell M. Hotard, 38, Gibson, was arrested at 9:38 a.m. Monday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on a charge of possession of methamphetamine. Bail has not been set at this time.

--Paul Marshall Daigle, 45, Bayou Vista, was arrested at 6:30 p.m. Monday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on charges of battery of a dating partner, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, resisting arrest or officer, interfering with emergency communications and domestic abuse aggravated assault.

Bail has not been set at this time.

--Donovan Michael Chilton, 37, Centerville, was arrested at 2:42 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant alleging simple burglary. Bail has not been set at this time.

Berwick

Chief David S. Leonard reported three arrest:

--Brontriaze Weber, 27, Franklin, was arrested at 8:38 p.m. Monday on charges of possession of methamphetamine, no insurance, driving under suspension, expired motor vehicle inspection and two headlights required.

--Billy Townsend, 30, Houma was arrested at 8:38 p.m. Monday on a charge of possession of methamphetamine and on a Morgan City warrant alleging failure to appear on charges of no insurance and child restraint.

About 8:17 p.m. Monday, a vehicle was observed on U.S. 90 with only one functioning headlight. A traffic stop was conducted, and officers observed an object being discarded from the vehicle.

Officers retrieved the item which was found to be methamphetamine. Officers made contact with Weber and Townsend, who were both placed under arrest through the investigation of the stop.

Franklin

Chief Cedric Handy reported these arrests:

--Another juvenile was arrested at 3:51 p.m. Monday on charges of illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile and two counts of attempted second-degree murder in connection with a November shooting.

A shooting occurred about 10:11 p.m. Nov. 15 in the area of Ninth Street. Officers located a wrecked vehicle and one victim with a gunshot wound. Police identified two people of interested.

Officers arrested one juvenile on attempted murder charges Nov. 16.

--Joseph Daniels, 27, Samuel Street, Franklin, was arrested at 8:49 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of disturbing the peace. Daniels was booked, processed and held on a $1,000 bond.

--Josiya James, 20, Cayce Street, Franklin, was arrested at 4:52 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of simple battery. James was booked, processed and held on a $2,500 bond.
