Attempted murder, heroin charges follow U.S. 90 stop

Deputies seeking a suspect named in a warrant made that arrest and another on a heroin possession charge..

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 103 complaints and made these arrests:

--Kevin James Diggs, 47, Franklin, was arrested at 3:19 a.m. Monday on a charge of attempted first-degree murder.

--Raymond Terry Chapman, 43, Franklin, was arrested at 3:19 a.m. Monday on charges of possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Monday, a K9 deputy was notified of a vehicle traveling west on U.S. 90, and one of the occupants was Diggs, who was named in an active warrant. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the passenger, identified as Raymond, and the driver, who was identified as Diggs.

During the stop, K9 Doerak was deployed for an open-air sniff on the vehicle's exterior and showed an indication for narcotics odor. Drugs belonging to Raymond were located in the vehicle.

Diggs and Raymond and were transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.

--Matthew Ryan Senette, 39, Centerville, was arrested at 6:42 p.m. Sunday on charges of domestic abuse battery, violation of protective orders, false imprisonment, simple interfering with emergency communications and simple criminal damage to property.

Bail has not been set at this time.

--Cordell Jerome Johnson Jr., 22, Franklin, was arrested at 12:13 p.m. Saturday on charges of resisting a police officer with force (non-aggravated) and disturbing the peace (language). Bail was set at $10,000.

--Briana Shontae Allen, 28, New Iberia, was arrested at 6:54 p.m. Saturday on a St. Martin warrant alleging failure to appear. Allen is being held for another agency.

Berwick

Chief David S. Leonard reported these charges:

--Jeremy Lodrigue, 51, Berwick, was arrested at 12:58 p.m. Friday on a Berwick warrant alleging domestic abuse battery.

About 12:58 p.m. Friday, officers observed Lodrigue and knew him to have active warrants. Officers made contact with Lodrigue, and he was placed under arrest without incident.

The warrant stems from an incident in August in which Lodrigue and a family member got into a physical altercation. Lodrigue was transported to the Berwick Police Department, where he was booked on the active warrant.

--Alejandro Nievas, 20, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:59 p.m. Friday on charges of illegal carrying of a weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possesson of marijuana (under 14 grams) and possession of tobacco products by a person under 21.

About 2:50 p.m. Friday, the Berwick Police Department received a call of a suspicious person walking with a firearm. A description was given, and officers located the subject identified as Nievas.

Officers met with Nievas and observed a firearm concealed on his person. They were able to verify that he is a convicted felon, prohibiting him from possessing a firearm.

Nievas was placed under arrest, and a further search of his person was done, at which time tobacco products and marijuana were located. Nievas was transported to the Berwick Police Department where he was booked.

--Adrian Alexis, 28, Plaquemine, was arrested at 10:50 p.m. Saturday on charges of no turn signal and driving while intoxicated (refusal).

About 10:30 p.m. Saturday, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle after it was observed to fail to use a turn signal. Officers made contact with the driver, Alexis, and impairment was detected.

Alexis refused field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. Alexis was transported to the Berwick Police Department, where he refused to submit a breath sample. Alexis was booked.

--Krystol Watterson, 36, Berwick, was arrested at 8:37 p.m. Sunday on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of synthetic marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

About 8:20 p.m. Sunday, the Berwick Police Department received calls about a female walking to different residents and trying to sell illegal drugs. Officers located Watterson.

While speaking with Watterson, methamphetamine and synthetic marijuana were located along with items of drug paraphernalia.

Watterson was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department, where she was booked.

Franklin

Chief Cedric Handy reported that the Franklin Police Department Police responded to 20 complaints over the past weekend and made these arrests:

--Breyonna Verret, 22, Anderson Street, Franklin, was arrested at 8:27 a.m. Friday on a charge of accessory after the fact to simple burglary. Verret was booked, processed and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.

--Steven Richard, Sr., 42, Anderson Street, Franklin, was arrested at 8:27 a.m. Friday on charges of simple burglary and simple criminal damage to property. Richard was booked, processed and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.

--Floyd Wilson, 57, Baptiste Street, Baldwin, was arrested at 3:45 p.m. Friday on a charge of simple criminal damage to property. Wilson was booked, processed and released to appear in 3rd Ward City Court.

--Paul Green, 50, Sager Brown Road, Baldwin, was arrested at 9:44 p.m. Sunday on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and open container. Green was booked, processed and released on a $6,500 bond.

--Nikki Pepper, 34, Louise Street, Jeanerette, was arrested at 8:37 p.m. Saturday on charges of careless operation and emergency vehicles. Pepper was booked, processed and released to appear in 3rd Ward City Court.

--Robert Gibson, Jr., 42, Autumn Lane, Jeanerette, was arrested at 11:24 a.m. Sunday on charges of speeding and driving under suspension for certain prior offenses. Gibson was booked, processed and released on a $2,000 bond.

--Vonsonelle Dubose, 53, Gary Lane, Gretna, was arrested at 1:46 p.m. Sunday on charges of speeding and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. Dubose was booked, processed and released on a $1,250.00 bond.

Assumption

Sheriff Leland Falcon reported these arrests:

--Jude Metrejean, 36, La. 70, Pierre Part, was arrested Saturday on a charge of simple burglary.

--Amy Marie Duplessis, 46, Belle River Road, Pierre Part, was arrested Sunday on a charge of simple burglary.

The charges arise from a burglary investigation in the Belle River area beginning Sept. 11.

Deputies responded to a camp burglary in the 200 block of Belle River Road and determined that individuals had committed a burglary sometime between July 27 and Aug. 23.

Two of the individuals involved in the burglary were identified as Metrejean and Duplessis.

Deputies determined that suspects entered the camp through a rear upstairs door, taking goods valued at $1,500 and causing damage valued at $1,245.

On Saturday, warrants were obtained for the arrests of Metrejean and Duplessis.

Metrejean was arrested Saturrday and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center, where he remains pending a bond hearing.

Duplessis was arrested on Sunday and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center, also awaiting a bond hearing.
