Arrests include weapons, drug charges

St. Mary deputies and Franklin police reported nine arrests over the weekend, including weapon and contraband charges.

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 103 complaints and made these arrests:

--Derrick Shawn Kirt, 46, Franklin, was arrested at 7:58 a.m. Friday on five warrants alleging failure to appear. Bail has not been set at this time.

--William Herbert King, 48, Verdunville, was arrested at 12:26 a.m. Monday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on a charge of theft. Bail has not been set at this time.

Franklin

Chief Cedric Handy reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to 27 complaints over the weekend and made these arrests:

--Milton Green, 36, Willow Street, Franklin, was arrested at 12:08 p.m. Friday on charges of disturbing the peace (language), remaining where forbidden and possession of drug paraphernalia. Green was booked, processed and held on a $3,750 bond.

--Rusty Bordelon, 34, Sterling Road, Franklin, while incarcerated at the Franklin Police Department, was arrested Saturday on two counts of introducing contraband into a penal institution. Bordelon was booked, processed and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.

--Zuanita Evans, 31, Fannin Street, Houston, was arrested at 12:12 a.m. Sunday on a charge of domestic abuse battery. Evans was additionally arrested on a warrant for probation violation, and on a warrant for 16th Judicial District Court alleging failure to appear on the charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and speeding. Evans was booked, processed and held on a $13,500 bond.

--Jezreel Westley, 29, Coteau Holmes Street, St. Martinville, was arrested on at 3:37 p.m. Sunday on charges of disturbing the peace (alarming the public) and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies. Westley was booked, processed and held on a $25,750 bond.

--Malik King, 21, Maple Street, Franklin, was arrested at 7:54 p.m. Sunday on a charge of possession of marijuana. King was additionally arrested on a warrant for 3rd Ward City Court alleging failure to appear on the charge of illegal carrying of weapons and on a warrant for 16th Judicial District Court for failure to appear on the charges of resisting an officer and disturbing the peace. King was booked, processed and held with no bond set at the time of press release.

--Braydon Ward, 23, Third Street, Franklin, was arrested at 11:18 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for Jeanerette City Court alleging failure to appear on the charge of speeding. Ward was booked, processed and transported to the Jeanerette Police Department.

--Jonathan Miller, 35, Cypress Street, Franklin, was arrested at 4:12 a.m. Monday on a warrant for 3rd Ward City Court alleging failure to appear on a charge of theft. Miller was booked, processed and held on a $368 bond.
