After shooting victim dies, Centerville man faces murder charge
The man accused in a Jan. 7 shooting in Centerville has been charged with murder after the victim succumbed to injuries.
Roderick Beauregard Rodriguez, 51, Centerville, was booked at 9:28 a.m. Monday on a warrant alleging second-degree murder, obstruction of justice (tampering) and illegal discharge of a firearm, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
The St. Mary Parish Coroner's Office identified the victim as Brodie Boudreaux, 30.
About 1:07 p.m. Jan 7, deputies responded to a residence in Centerville on a welfare concern call. They found a man wounded by gunfire in a camper at the residence.
Acadian Ambulance was called to the scene, and the wounded man was transported to a hospital and subsequently flown by helicopter to an out-of-town medical facility.
Detectives were called to the scene and opened an investigation into the incident. Through the investigation, Rodriguez was identified as a person of interest in the case, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Evidence was obtained and Rodriguez was arrested and originally charged with attempted second-degree murder, and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.
Bail was set at $500,000.
On Sunday, detectives were contacted by the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office with information that the victim of the shooting had passed away.
Detectives obtained a warrant on the second-degree murder charge along with obstruction of justice and illegal discharge of a firearm.
Bail has not been set at this time.
