Sheriff's Office arrests four after theft of welding supplies

A St. Mary Sheriff’s Office investigation led to the arrest of four people in connection with the theft of thousands of dollars’ worth of welding supplies.

St. Mary

Sheriff Gary Driskell reported these arrests:

--Isai Nunez-Ortega, 26, Morgan City, was arrested at 5:58 p.m. July 27 on a charge of simple burglary. Bail was set at $10,000.

--Rosa Adilia-Sanchez Santos, 48, Morgan City, was arrested at 5:58 p.m. July 27 on a charge of simple burglary. Sanchez was released on a $10,000 bond.

--Shauntell Nichole Hartdegen, 43, Pierre Part, was arrested at 7:59 p.m. July 31 on a charge of simple burglary. Hartdegen was released on a $20,000 bond.

--Paige Cline Sante Marie Hartdegen, 27, St. Martinville, was arrested at 7:59 p.m. July 31 on charges of simple burglary and criminal neglect of family. Hartdegen was released on a $30,000 bond.

On July 3, deputies with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a business in Amelia in reference to a theft. Deputies spoke with the complainant, who reported that approximately $15,000 worth of welding leads had been stolen sometime during the previous night.

He also showed the deputy a hole in the fence that may have been used to gain entry onto the property.

On July 24, new intelligence identified Shauntell Hartdegen and Paige Hartdegen as suspects in the burglary. On July 27, detectives from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted a ''knock and talk'' at a residence in Amelia, where they met Nunez-Ortega. Nunez indicated that
Shauntell Hartdegen had recently left the property.

While at the location, detectives observed a large quantity of wire casings from wires that had been recently cut and stripped of their metal contents.

As the investigation progressed, detectives learned that Nunez-Ortega and a female identified as Sanchez-Santos had been actively stripping the stolen wire at the residence. Nunez and Sanchez-Santos were transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.

Detectives subsequently made contact with Shauntell Hartdegen and Paige Hartdegen and learned of their involvement in this case. Furthermore, while conducting the investigation, detectives observed the environment and living conditions provided for Paige Hartdegen's children.

Based on these observations, Paige Hartdegen was placed under arrest and additionally charged with criminal neglect of family. Paige and Shauntell Hartdegen were transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.

The investigation continues. Detectives ask any businesses or anyone with information about stolen welding leads to contact the SMPSO.

--Shayna Renee Tatum, 31, Morgan City, was arrested at 5:14 p.m. Monday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on charges of operating a vehicle with improper taillights and operating a vehicle while license is suspended, revoked, or canceled. Bail has not been set at this time.

--Kathleen Desiree Evans, 36, Houma, was arrested at 9:28 p.m. Monday on charges of battery of a dating partner and disturbing the peace (intoxicated). Bail has not been set at this time.

--Aleyder Vidal Chub-Quisque, 33, Jeanerette, was arrested at 11:55 p.m. Sunday on charges of driving while intoxicated, reckless operation (no accident) and driver must be licensed. Chub was released on a $1,840 bond.
