Berwick falls to Covenant Christian

Berwick took on the Covenant Christian Academy Lions for their Week 6 matchup. Covenant Christian was heading into this game with a perfect 5-0 record and improved to 6-0 after Friday’s 48-12 victory over Berwick.
The game was played at John L. Guidry Stadium, home of the Nicholls Colonels.
Covenant Christian started this game hot, leading the Panthers 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. Covenant Christian’s high powered passing attack gave them the early advantage. The Lion’s junior quarterback Owen Trosclair completed multiple passes on the two scoring drives including a 26-yard touchdown to junior wideout Jaden Carter.
Following the Carter touchdown, Berwick responded with a touchdown of their own. Evan Crappell led the Panthers all the way down the field, ending the drive with a 4-yard passing touchdown to Carter Whipple. Covenant Christian would score one more time before half to make it a 21-12 game.
After halftime, the Panthers started their comeback attempt. Maddox Sampey intercepted Trosclair, leading to a 6-yard Cole Morris rushing touchdown. This would be the Panthers’ last score.
The interception, followed by the Panthers’ touchdown, looked as if a comeback attempt would be successful, but Covenant Christian’s offense completely took over after the Morris touchdown, scoring 36 unanswered points.
Trosclair threw three more touchdowns and shut down any Berwick comeback attempt. After what looked to be a potential upset victory, the Lions high-powered passing attack was too much for Berwick to handle.
The Panthers dropped to 2-3 on the season.
On Friday, the Panthers play the 5-2 Erath Bobcats in Erath. The Bobcats are heading into this game with a two-game win streak, beating the DeQuincy Tigers 30-28 last week.
