Tanks-A-Lot gives container unit to Mr. Charlie museum
Tanks-A-Lot has donated its offshore container unit to the Mr. Charlie Rig Museum for its use.
Containerization is a strategic part in the logistics of safe handling of cargoes in the offshore industry.
In 2008, the American Energy Cargo Container Association was formed for the purpose of disseminating information related to the design, construction, testing and inspection of CCU’s and associated lifting gear.
According to a press release from Tanks-A-Lot:
This nonprofit trade organization includes: licensed structural design engineers, fabricators, testing and inspection companies, and CCU owners from the industry in the Gulf of Mexico region.
Within AECCA, collective ideas and common ground within the organization lead the way to developing best practices and industry standards for CCU’s, which did not exist in the Gulf of Mexico at the time. Four years after AECCA was formed, the industry realized that a vacuum existed in CCU standardization.
In 2012, the American Petroleum Institute realized the efforts of the AECCA and formed a committee to write a global standard for CCUs within API. The API 2 CCU committee was formed, broke into subcommittees and began working to solve the many challenges faced in creating a Global standard for CCU’s.
Five years later, API 2 CCU has been published and is an all-encompassing global cargo container standard rooted in design, engineering, fabrication, quality control and life‐cycle inspection criteria.
API 2CCU, is a sister document to the API 2C and 2D crane documents, which are incorporated by reference by the Bureau of Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.
The publication will close out effort to address "below the hook" issues with cargo containers and round out the suite of API recommendations addressing cranes and associated gear.
