New Orleans company will convert hospital into senior apartments
New Orleans Restoration Properties has officially closed on the Old Franklin Foundation Hospital building and begun work to convert the site into the Franklin Senior Apartments, city officials recently announced.
The project traces back to 2022, when Beverly Domengeaux, executive director of the St. Mary Parish Council on Aging, contacted the mayor’s office to raise the idea. From that initial call, local leaders and partners built momentum through meetings and planning sessions with New Orleans Restoration Properties. Key partners in the effort include the Community Action Agency, Teche Health, Bayou Bend Health Systems, St. Mary Parish Economic Development, Louisiana Housing Corp.Board Member Willie Rack, State Rep. Vinney St. Blanc, former Sen. Bret Allain, Sen. Robert Allain and the Franklin City Council.
Officials noted the development is the result of a lengthy, collaborative process involving town hall meetings at the Teche Theatre, application navigation and ongoing public outreach supported by local media.
Minor construction has already begun, and crews will increase activity as the project moves into major construction phases. Drivers and pedestrians are urged to exercise caution around work zones.
When complete, the Franklin Senior Apartments will provide modern, accessible housing for local seniors, allowing many to remain in the community where they raised their families and contributed to local life.
A groundbreaking announcement from New Orleans Restoration Properties will be shared once scheduled.
