Franklin welcomes international film crew
FRANKLIN – The city of Franklin recently played host to two film productions as part of its growing Film Franklin initiative, including the internationally produced Canadian film “Qui se souviendra de nous (Who Will Remember Us)” by directors Emmanuel Hessler and Pier-Luc Latulippe.
The initiative, led by city officials, facilitated the selection of Franklin as a filming location after being contacted by Taylor Cooper of the Acadiana Film Association. The production team had previously scouted the Atchafalaya Basin in Henderson but ultimately chose a site along the Franklin Canal, a location recommended and championed by the city administration.
To support the scouting process, local business owner Ronnie Thibodaux of Ronnie’s Airboats donated his services to guide the crew to the proposed site. The film team was reportedly impressed with the location, later nicknaming it “The Garden of Eden” for its natural beauty.
Once filming began, the city coordinated with the Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau to secure group rates at local hotels. Local restaurants were also engaged, with one selected to provide Craft Services for the cast and crew. In addition, Ronnie’s Airboats was hired to transport the crew, equipment, and supplies to the remote film location.
Due to the harsh and primitive filming conditions—including heat, humidity, wildlife, and a lack of basic infrastructure—city officials recommended hiring paramedic Hal Titus to be on-site, especially as the film involved an infant actor and scenes filmed in open canal water.
Despite the challenges, the production team experienced Franklin’s signature hospitality. Local residents welcomed the crew throughout the city, from restaurants to retail stores. Cultural immersion played a role as well, with Cajun and Creole experiences and cuisine offered to the visiting Canadians. Notably, Hal and Kerie Titus hosted a traditional crawfish boil for the film crew’s wrap party.
City officials expressed pride in the role Franklin played in the international project and in the relationships built with the visiting team. The film is currently making its rounds on the international film festival circuit, with no confirmed date yet for its local premiere in Franklin.
The city continues to attract attention from independent filmmakers and major studios alike, and local leadership remains committed to supporting the creative industry. Officials extended their gratitude to everyone who contributed to making Franklin a sought-after filming destination.
