Bankers honor MCPD detective

Detective Ryan Aucoin of the Morgan City Police Department is one of four Louisiana law enforcement officers honored by the Louisiana Bankers Association recently for their efforts to investigate fraud, recover losses and protect consumers and financial institutions from financial crime.
The officers were recognized for investigations involving ATM jackpotting schemes, check fraud, romance scams and other financial crimes affecting Louisiana communities.
“These officers represent the best of law enforcement’s partnership with Louisiana’s banking industry,” said LBA CEO Ginger Laurent. “Their efforts helped stop fraud, protect consumers and bring criminals to justice. We are proud to recognize their commitment to keeping Louisiana communities safe. Their cases demonstrate both the local and statewide impact of strong partnerships between law enforcement and financial institutions.”
Aucoin initiated an investigation that spread across the country and was found to have involved a cartel.
“Detective Ryan Aucoin demonstrated exceptional initiative and awareness when, while off duty, he observed a vehicle matching the description of one involved in a series of ATM burglaries,” Brian Thorguson of Patterson State Bank said. “His actions led to a coordinated investigation that resulted in multiple arrests and helped disrupt criminal activity linked to ATM jackpotting operations affecting financial institutions across Louisiana and other states.”
Also honored:
•Chief Antonio German of the Mer Rouge PD, who “consistently goes above and beyond to protect businesses and residents in the Mer Rouge community. Whether assisting with fraud investigations, recovering potential losses for local businesses or proactively safeguarding the community during emergencies, Chief German demonstrates professionalism, leadership and a strong commitment to public service,” said Robin Tyson of Mer Rouge State Bank.
•Sgt. Jerry Williams of Louisiana “has built trusted relationships across Southwest Louisiana and has become a valuable resource for financial institutions and law enforcement agencies investigating financial crimes. His knowledge, professionalism and dedication helped bring a lengthy fraud investigation to a successful resolution and continues to strengthen partnerships that protect local communities,” said Jennifer Pugh of First Federal Bank of Louisiana.
•Sgt. Robert Jordan of the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office “played a key role in the investigation of a romance scam that resulted in losses exceeding $25,000 for a bank customer. His work helped identify and apprehend the suspect several states away, leading to criminal charges and demonstrating the value of collaboration between financial institutions and law enforcement in combating fraud,” said Chad McClung of Colfax Banking Co.
Each year, LBA recognizes outstanding law enforcement officers who help banks investigate financial crimes. The award recipients are nominated by security officers and banking professionals from across the state.
