Voter books to close March 29

Voter books will close March 29 for the April 29 election.
Registrar of Voters Jolene Holcombe reports that in-person or mail registration is due on March 29, and the Geaux Vote online electronic registration dealing is April 8.
Early voting will be April 15-22 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Registrar’s office in the St. Mary Parish Courthouse and the branch office at 301 Third St. in Morgan City. Voters may cast early ballots at either location regardless of address.
The April 29 election includes a runoff for St. Mary Parish Council Dist. 10 at-large between Gabriel Beadle and Reginald Weary. This is a parishwide election.
Also, Water and Sewer Commission No. 3 voters will decide on a 8.60 mills property tax for a 10-year duration. That district is approximately from the Franklin city limits to the Patterson city limits.
Water and Sewer 3 is a new district derived from the consolidation of Waterworks 5 and Sewer Districts 5 and 8. All three have existing millages for operation and maintenance that would be replaced by this millage if passed by voters. Overall, residents in various parts of the consolidated district will likely see a drop in millage rate anywhere from 1 to 2½ mills.
Bayou Vista’s Fire Protection District will ask voters to renew a 5 mills property tax for 10 years.
