Tribal police arrest 1 in series of burglary cases
A Franklin man was arrested by Chitimacha Police last week on warrants charging him with simple burglary and criminal trespassing.
Chief Hal Hutchinson reported that Keith Mitchell, 24, of Cesar Lane, Franklin, was arrested with assistance of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Wednesday.
On March 29, Chitimacha officers initiated a traffic stop on Mitchell for suspicious activities. During the course of the investigation, Mitchell was issued a citation for non-residential curfew violation. The following day a resident called in and reported that items had been stolen from the interior of their vehicle. The items reported stolen were items that were in the vehicle being operated by Mitchell the previous night.
Mitchell spoke to officers and admitted in an interview that he had committed the burglary along with other burglaries that had occurred on tribal reservation land, along with other crimes off the reservation. Warrants were for two counts of simple burglary, two counts of attempted simple burglary, and three counts of criminal trespassing.
This is an ongoing investigation and the Chitimacha Tribal Police Department is working with other departments in the area with their investigations.
