Franklin mourns the loss of community leader Didi Battle
The City of Franklin is mourning the loss of longtime community leader, volunteer and civic advocate Didi Battle, whose decades of service helped shape and strengthen the community she called home.
Ms. Didi, a native of New York City, moved to Franklin more than 30 years ago and quickly became one of the city’s most dedicated and recognizable civic champions. Through her volunteer work, leadership and commitment to community improvement, she left a lasting impact on Franklin residents and organizations.
A longtime member of the Franklin Main Street Board of Directors, Ms. Didi was instrumental in launching and leading the successful “Let’s Be Frank! Keep Franklin Beautiful” initiative, in partnership with Keep Louisiana Beautiful. The program encourages residents of all ages to take pride in their community through beautification and litter-prevention efforts.
She had a passion for preserving Franklin’s charm and character. She often emphasized that a clean and welcoming city reflected the pride of its people, inspiring countless volunteers to join her efforts over the years.
Her dedication extended beyond beautification projects. Ms. Didi also served for many years on the Bayou Bend Health System Board of Directors, helping support and strengthen healthcare resources for the city. In addition, she was a devoted supporter of the Teche Theatre for the Performing Arts and a steadfast advocate for the arts, culture and heritage that define Franklin.
Her connection to the Teche Theatre remains immortalized in a painting displayed inside the historic venue, where she is depicted sitting in her customary seat in the audience.
Local residents will remember Ms. Didi, not only for her accomplishments, but also for her generosity, enthusiasm and love for Franklin.
Ms. Didi’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations. Franklin is a cleaner, stronger, healthier and more vibrant community because of her dedication and service.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
