Baldwin police and fire personnel receive service awards

BALDWIN — On Thursday, Aug. 13, representatives of Acadian Ambulance and Air Med presented meritorious service awards to 14 first responders at the Town of Baldwin’s council meeting, recognizing their lifesaving efforts in response to a recent shooting.
On July 14, first responders with the Baldwin Police Department and Baldwin Fire Department responded to reports of gunfire. They found two victims with critical gunshot wounds.
The first responders provided initial care to the victims before Acadian Ambulance medics arrived on scene. They also helped two Air Med helicopters land simultaneously to transport the patients to hospitals in Baton Rouge and Lafayette.
As a result of the first responders’ efforts, both individuals were eventually stabilized and released from care.
“It takes the combined effort of law enforcement, fire departments and EMS providers like Acadian Ambulance to create positive outcomes like this for patients,” said Carlo Gagliano, community relations specialist for Acadian Ambulance. “We’re grateful for our partnership with Baldwin’s police and fire departments.”
Gagliano presented the awards to the first responders alongside Air Med Operational Control Coordinator Courtney DeRouen and Air Med Clinical Care Coordinator Mark Morris.
